A very special birthday…

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

…a very special birthday indeed. Last weekend, my nephew Rocco turned 1 – and of course, my sister threw a beautiful party in his honour. She got the keys to her new house just a few days before and worked all day and night to get the house ready, and it proved the perfect blank canvas for celebrations.

Teepee from Emi & Nell. Chevron rug and sheepskin rug from Ikea
Carnival letter, £48, The Little House Shop (and they take batteries – so no unsightly wires!)

Marks + Spencer sushi canapes
My sister Nicky with Rocco
Rainbow cake, £26.95, by The Hummingbird Bakery

A wonderful afternoon and a thoroughly spoilt (and deservedly so) 1 year old! Happy Birthday, Rocco.

I honestly love everything on here – your outfit, the birthday setting, the sushi(!) and the cake – what a fab and original cake for a child's birthday! It makes such a nice change from the usual offerings I see and nobody wants to eat. I bought myself a Hummingbird bakery book a few years back – I am sorry to say I have not made any use of it. A baker I am not.

Thanks Sue! Yes, Nicky was going to bake a cake and then she realised she could order this for around £25 (sometimes it pays to take the stress off!) – best left to the experts!

She was lucky as they hadn't moved full out of their last flat – so a lot of the furniture is still in the old place – a blank canvas!

Well done to your sister, we moved into our house on Christmas Eve, and it's not easy before a big occasion but it's amazing what you can get done when you put your mind to it. Looked like a great celebration- love your shoes!

Wow! What better way to greet that kind of shift in a person's life, right? The new house is something to look forward to, indeed. Not only laying claim to the house by the gradual process of fully realizing the potentials of that property and seizing it, but also having a sense of ownership. Anyway, thanks for sharing that! Rocco is such a cute little baby! I wish you guys all the best!
