Beauty obsession: blue nails

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Trench: £198, J Crew. Shirt: £155, Splendid. Jeans: £30, Asos. Bag: £290, Manu Atelier. Nails: ‘Beach Please’, £7, Cheeky. Photograph: Chris O’Donnell

I’m not sure how it happened but blue nails has become my ‘thing’. Blue has always been my favourite colour in a preppy, navy and denim kind of way but electric blue nails look so good with a tan and I get so many compliments on it. It’s a nice alternative to all the corals out there during the summer months (I always like going against the grain). So when Topshop beauty mentioned that they had brought out a range of blue hue nail colours to match their denim, I thought I’d do a round-up of my favourite blues (and a few ideas on what to wear with them:

Mules: £128, All Saints. Nail polish: ‘Mom’, £6, Topshop

Topshop nail polishes really are good quality, they glide on so nicely and they have, in my opinion, the best colours.  Plus at £6 they’re a great cheap thrill and make great gifts/ stocking fillers.

Breton top: £18.55, Boden. ‘Cobalt blue’ nail polish: £4.50, Mavala. ‘Beach Please’ nail polish: £7, Cheeky

The nail polish that started it all: Mavala ‘Cobalt Blue’ is one of my all-time favourites. I found it whilst searching for an affordable YSL ‘Marjorelle Blue’ and it is such a good colour.
Shirt: £49, Hush. Bag: J Crew (sold out). Sunglasses: £90, Ray-Ban. Bracelets: Astley Clarke. Belt: Asos (sold out)

I also love ‘Beach Please’ from Cheeky (Cowshed’s cheekier sister brand), their nail parlours are a great place to go for a girly afternoon and their colours are bright, poppy and great fun.

Jeans: £30, Asos. ‘Hayden’ nail polish: £6, Topshop
Jeans: £215, M.i.h Jeans. ‘Jamie’ nail polish: £6, Topshop.

I’ve been wearing this navy colour on my fingernails loads lately, it looks so good with jeans an a nice alternative to black.

Shirt: Gap (old). ‘Babe Watch’ nail polish: £7, Cheeky
This colour looks much more lilac in the bottle but it’s a lovely soft mid blue/purple and fast becoming one of my favourites.

LOVE blue nail polishes -I'm currently rocking a turquoise shade from Boots 17 on my toes (one of my favourites, but I can't find it on their website now I look which makes me sad it may have been discontinued!) also love OPI's 'Russian Navy'. The 'Cobalt Blue' shade above looks like just my thing, will have to try and hunt that down!

I hate it when things get discontinued! I had the same with a Benefit cream blusher, and bonded once on a trip away with a girl who was trying to eek out the last of her tube as well! x

Hi Alex. I've a 33/34 inch leg. Do you think the asos jeans will be too short? Thanks

I am 5 foot 7, and they are ankle grazing. The good news is, shorter jeans are in style at the moment, so think they'll still work (and you can show off your sandals!) x
