You know when you go away for a weekend, you can’t do absolutely everything, so instead you rely on a few, chic friends or locals to recommend their absolute best places? Well, that’s what I’ve done for our trip to Copenhagen (where we should be currently, if all goes to plan!), I asked my favourite Scandi brands to share their must-visit places, sights and (perhaps more importantly) restaurants in the hip Danish city:
1. Vinhanen: Really good and affordable wine both to stay or to go. The interior is relaxed with long tables and you can get a charcuterie plate with cheese or sausages for your glass of natural wine.
2. The Botanical Garden: I love small parks and the best part about the botanical garden is the Palm House which is so beautiful and almost like walking in to a Celine campaign. Instagram worthy for sure!
3. Jack’s Hole In A Wall: One of my best friends just opened this very small coffee shop in the city centre. I always go for a cup of morning coffee on my way to work or a glass of wine Friday after work.
4. Pastis: Pastis has become my place to celebrate. The classic french bistro is where I went when my sidekick, Frederikke, and I finished our book, where I had lunch after getting my job at Mads Nørgaard and pretty much where I go every time something awesome happens.
5. Atelier September: If there is an avocado toast more Instagrammed than the one at Atelier September I would love to see it. The small cafe is light and cozy and everything from coffee to fresh juice or grapefruit in thin slices – so pretty you almost don’t want to eat it. This is where the cool cats hang out.
1. HAY House, Stilleben and Dansk Made For Rooms – for
beautiful Scandi design and house bits
2. The Union Kitchen – for beer and meatballs and friendly staff
3. Host restaurant – Simple seasonal Scandinavian food and
design award-winning interiors.
4. Nyhavn – you haven’t really seen Copenhagen without a visit to the famous port.
1. Head to Pilestræde or Købmagergade, the main streets where you’ll find the bigger brands and High street stores. Illum is one of my favourites – a luxury department store located on the main walking street (Strøget), newly renovated, it is very modern, worth a visit and they have a lovely rooftop bar with great views of Copenhagen.
2. For dinner I love Steak Royal, the newest member to the Madklubben restaurants. The whole meatpacking district is loaded with nice restaurants like Paté Paté and Gorilla.
3. Granola for breakfast, classic French and very popular, located on a cool street in Frederiksberg, I love having breakfast there. Visit Torvehallerne – the food Mecca, to go get a coffee, breakfast to go or take away is perfect there. I like Grød – it is porridge to go, healthy and delicious .
5. Go to Tivoli Gardens, and be prepared to spend a good few hours there, they have nice restaurants as well so you can make a full day of it. There is something for everyone at Tivoli, the scenery is beautiful with historic buildings and stunning gardens as well as the theme park element. At night the place really comes alive, it’s my favourite time to visit as the place is lit up with coloured lights which creates a really unique magical
atmosphere.
1. The free town of Christiania might be controversial, but if you
ask me, it’s one of the most unique spots in Copenhagen. Come for the beautiful army barrack and hand-built houses, the street art, the restaurants and bars and definitely the concert venue. In summer time you can join
the Sunday concerts with known Danish artists for free. The best possible end to a weekend.
2. Papirøen – Copenhagen has got quite the gastronomic reputation and Noma, Geranium and Formel B are great restaurants, but if you are looking for something more casual and cheaper choices, you must go to Copenhagen Street Food at Papirøen. Here you can buy a wide selection of international street food with best views of Copenhagen – the Opera House, the Royal Playhouse and the harbour of Copenhagen. Quite breathtaking.
3. 8TALLET– It’s a new golden age for Danish architecture and ‘Starchitect’ Bjarke Ingels and his company are leaving quite a mark on Copenhagen thesedays. Take a tour of all their world-class architecture from 8TALLET to Superkilen Park and the VM Mountain.
4. If you want to go for a swim, but stay near Central Copenhagen, you must go to Islands Brygge Harbour Bath. Here you can cool down on hot days in one of the five pools. The lawn in front of the pool is perfect for
sun-bathing and picnics.
1. Canal tour – take the Netto boats, they are much cheaper and
just as good as the fancy ones; located 10 meters from the original tour boats.
2. Flea market at the Dome Vision – the cultural plastic dome in city centre. Also the Food market at meatpacking district – 40 stands with food for everyone, music and great vibes.
3. Glyptoteket Museum is a great visit too! Right now there’s an exhibition on the works of photographer Man Ray.
4. Bæst and Manfreds are all very hip at the moment and are all organic eateries based in the Nørrebro district of the city.
5. For Asian cuisine, Aroii in Nørrebro is great – and
for tapas, Llama in the centre of the city is such a cool place.
6. For the the best coffee and breakfast, Mirabelle at Nørrebro is a must! And Ricco´s Kaffebar and Coffee Collective are great too
– both placed in Torvehallerne and around the city.

The Botanical Gardens are beautiful & defiantly worth a visit. I actually got married there & then we drunk our way to Tivoli where we danced our first dance at an open air concert & rode the big wheel for hours.
The three interior shops Alicia recommends, are favourites too, Hays in particular.
Have fun! x
Hi Alex. Can you sort out the pop up ads on your site. They are infuriating and will not go away.
Hi Anne, I actually spoke to my ad provider (without whom it wouldn't be possible to continue working on my blog) last year to ask for no pop-ups, so there shouldn't be any (and I just checked). What web browser are you using? I used to have a problem with safari with virus pop-ups (which aren't related to my site), so I use Mozilla Firefox and never have any problems x
How wonderful – the dream wedding – trying to go to Tivoli at night but keep getting so tired! And shopping tomorrow, can't wait xx
Great post; I'm actually going to Copenhagen in September, so this post is relevant to me!
