Aah, a typical British summer: I’d been wanting to photograph these espadrilles for so long, and when I finally arranged a shoot – it rained.
But with my time being squeezed even more right now with the house renovations and the busy season for work (both blog and styling jobs), I pretty much had to shoot this look anyway. First world blogger problems: it ain’t always easy.
When it comes to summer dressing, any chance to get my ankles out is a must – and a fancy espadrille is pretty much an essential. Last year I bought the black H&M ones (the flat versions are available here) but this season I wanted to push them up a notch. Step forward the fluoro version from Penelope Chilvers.
I’ve been a fan of hers for years, I had a pair of velvet skull smoking slippers for years until they eventually disintegrated and they were amongst my most comfy shoes ever. I saw Laura from Wardrobe Icons with the lace-up ones last summer and knew they would add some finesse to my closet.
I went for the shot of hot pink, and so excited to take them to Ibiza with a kaftan (I’m actually thinking the Other Stories x Toms kaftan is perfect). But for now, they’ll have to do with my favourite old jeans and H&M blazer (which I’m also thinking will look great on holiday with denim shorts and a logo tee).
You might have noticed I’ve been wearing a bit chunkier jewellery lately. I lost my tiny hoops I usually wear everyday so have gone back to these larger ones (old from H Samuel) – it feels weird to be in big hoops again but it adds something to my more classic outfits.
The necklace is one I used to wear when I was about 14 – a gift from my nan – and after noticing a return of chunkier pendants on Instagram, I brought it out of retirement and have fallen back in love with it.
So, until that sun starts shining a little bit longer, I’m still in jeans. And that’s okay with me.
