Meet me in the midi dress {partnership with & Other Stories}

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Dress: £89, & Other Stories. Boots: £129, & Other Stories. Photography: Ella Sadika.

I was just discussing with a PR, recently, how & Other Stories do the best midi dresses. Fact. Especially as both of us were wearing them to our lunch meeting.

And as it’s seemingly what I wear most days, I decided to update my wardrobe with  a new version.

I am usually seen dashing around town in a midi dress, coat and trainers. Since having a baby, I have definitely felt more comfortable in a dress than a pair of tight jeans I struggle to get over my hips. Last week, on a styling shoot the makeup artist, Art director and myself all had a midi dress with battered trainers and we cringily accepted it was the ‘new mum’ uniform – comfort, ease and style.

So I decided to break out of my comfort zone and try it with the boots of the season – white cowboy boots.

Boots: £129, & Other Stories (but if you’re still scared of white boots, I’ve linked to some great black ones at the bottom of the post)

Yes, I vowed never to do the ‘cowboy boot’ thing again. I went fully ‘in’ on that trend in 2004 with a pair of pointy Dune ones and can never go back there. But that was until I realised I could do a cuban heel version, which are such an easy nod to the trend without going full throttle. And in fact, its a great way to do a heel without the uncomfort, I could walk all day in these without carrying my trainers in an extra bag.

White boots

And white boots are the hero of the season, and I’m definitely moving towards it. They just add another point of difference to an outfit (and anything that detracts attention away from my tired face right now is a yes in my book!).

The thing about a midi dress is that it’s a perennial item, my And Other Stories one from last summer is still in my closet this winter and will be worn under a chunky knit with tights and boots and then even to smarter evening events. And this is the perfect new addition – the tiny heart print with the subtle ruffle front is a winner for me – the dress screams Alex but the boots help keep it less obvious. For me, these will be the new red boots in my wardrobe – helping to lift my otherwise plainer pieces.

Dress: £89, & Other Stories.

This post was in collaboration with & Other Stories, a store I have always loved and am very excited about working with! For some more spring outfits that feature midi dresses, click here.

    You look so gorgeous here Alex, and absolutely love the way you’ve paired this gorgeous dress with cuban boots; such an unexpected styling trick but it works!

    I love this look! I too am a huge fan of my midi dresses (and skirts) but find them so hard to wear in winter. Any tips on what kind of knitwear works? I’d normally sling on trainers and a leather jacket, but getting too cold for that now.

    Thank you!

      I’d throw on a chunky polo neck over the dress for sure – a bit long length, love the flowy dress peeping out the bottom xx
