Yes, I’ll admit it. I’m a total pregnant lady cliche – spending the last bit of my maternity leave nesting at home and prepping for baby’s arrival.
In our defence, we’ve been sorting this house for well over a year. But, the extra person joining us imminently has indeed given us a bit of a deadline for a few more rooms to be finished.

So we are super excited to reveal a *bit* of our bedroom. Not 100% finished – because who really has all their furniture, curtains, artwork up straight away?
We like to ‘live’ in a room first to feel for the space
Then save up to buy what we really want. But you get the gist, and it definitely serves us as a room we can use happily and with far more storage than we’ve ever had before.

I must admit, probably the nicest thing about this room is being able to walk around in new slippers on clean surfaces. Previously, we would have to walk only in outside shoes and take them off every time we entered a ‘clean’ room, i.e bathroom. To be able to walk across 70% of upstairs in slippers has been a dream – small pleasures, yes, but so satisfying.

After the builders left in mid Jan, we’ve been spending most evenings and weekends painting, sorting and cleaning – with a little help from method products. A brand I’ve been using for years, after searching for an in-shower spray that I could have on the side that was affordable but also not an eyesore (yes, I’m *that* shallow).
An introduction to Method
If you haven’t heard of it, let me fill you in – it’s a cleaning brand that works without using any toxic ingredients and its products are made from 100% recycled plastic. What’s not to love?

Oh, and it has just launched its Rose Gold collection with prices from £3.00 (which smell great). I must admit when I included this brand on Instagram Stories it’s funny how many people get as excited about a cleaning product as I do…
It appears I’m not the only slightly crazy person who lives for a day of tidying.
And with the impending addition to our little family, naturally derived eco-friendly products are more and more part of my consciousness.

We still have a little way to go with the house, the next stage is painting the hall. Then the entire outside of the house, replacing the roof all before we can start to think about the kitchen (once we’ve paid back our savings!). But for now, our world is almost complete. For five things that we’ve learnt from living through a renovation, click here.
It all looks so good. Love, love, love.
I have been following your house journey from the beginning. I must say Congratulations to you both you are making it look stunning you have had a very hard time I think your story will help a lot of people aspiring to get on the property ladder and that it is possible to turn an unloved sad and tired house into a gem. Would love to see your property in one of the home mags you so deserve it. Good luck with baby and thank you ?? for being my clothes inspiration.tooXxx
What colour/brand of paint did you use to paint your skirting boards and doors? Love the colour and finish.
It looks amazing Alex.
I always think you seem such a lovely & sorted young woman.
I’ve started having a peek at other blogs- usually ones you follow but always come back to urs with much more of a feeling of connection somehow.
So looking forward to u becoming a Mum & the arrival of ur baby. When is the due date- not long now. X
Funny I’ve just asked my local Avoca to order some Method products in for me if they can, as it’s not available here in supermarkets. I love the idea of it and I’ve heard it’s amazing and I love that it’s non toxic. Love your new room! Nearly there.
Stunning just stunning. Have loved watching the transformation. Not sure how you have managed through the pregnancy but your house is ready! X
Wow Alex your bedroom looks amazing !! So worth all the hours of hard work you guys have put into it. You have inspired me to tackle our very long overdue bedroom decoration. Yesterday I won a Remodelista giveaway of a beautiful bedlinen set -amazed me as I never win anything!! Very best of luck with your impending D Day- such an exciting time xx
Hi Alex, it looks amazing . Both you and your husband are so talented. I really look forward to reading your updates on your blog . And I loved listening to your recent podcast , really interesting and you deserve all your success, you’ve earned it. Best of luck with the new arrival , exciting times ahead.
Ohhhhh your bedroom is so lovely!!!
what is the colour of your woodwork please ? hope you don’t mind me asking!
Happy nesting day x
The skirting? Downpipe x
Thank you so much! It has been tiring but so satisfying! x
Oh wow – I never win anything either – congrats! It has been tiring but definitely worth it for a cup of tea in bed this morning – first time we’ve done that in ages! x
Yes….just kitchen and a few other things (!) – but we feel much more sorted now! x
Yes it is amazing! Good call xxx
Thank you xxx
Thank you – I must admit this room in particular has turned out even better than we could have imagined (although more expensive too!!!) – and we’re probably never moving again! xx
It’s Farrow & Ball Modern Eggshell in Downpipe – used to be a floor paint but they realised it had such a nice finish they rebranded it 🙂 we actually had some floorpaint left from downstairs which we wanted to use up – and how we found out it had such a nice texture!
This is so lovely to read, thank you for always leaving lovely comments! I’ve really enjoyed writing on the blog again after the daily consumption of Instagram…I have 2 weeks but happy for the baby to stay in a bit longer – still got a few things on my to-do list 🙂
Alex youre bedroom is soooo beautiful, congratulations on finishing it so quickly! Where is your armchair and pouffe from?
Best of luck with everything else! Susie x
Hi, I am about to start redecorating our house and feeling very inspired by your use of colour, especially on the skirting and doors. However I was wondering if you are using the same colour all the way through the house, and if not what you do where different colours meet? E.g. around the doorframe if your bedroom is downpipe but your landing was different? Hope my question makes sense.
Many thanks for all the inspiration
Oh yes it makes perfect sense! So we are actually going to paint the other side of the door Railings in the hallway…which is a darker grey – so hopefully we can do up to the door stop in Downpipe and then the other side will be a dark grey – we will have to be careful with overlap but easier than having it white the other side…and the doors in the other rooms will be completely Railings x
Thank you – pouffe is from Monsoon Home! Chair is very old from Out and Out Original (they don’t have the exact one anymore but similar) x
Been watching your house transformation and it looks fantastic. That bed though ???
Yes thank you, and thank you for spreading your awesome inspiration…x
What a lovely room! Can I ask you where you purchased your curtain pole from for your body window? Many thanks
Hi, looking for a navy throw for the bed. Where is yours from ?
I’ve really enjoyed watching your visions come to life on your stories! Any plans to do the nursery yet? (I’m in the process of decorating ours and and would love to see your inspiration)
your house is really coming along and it looks so nice! I love all the detail, you can tell how much effort has gone into it.
I really like method, the packaging is fantastic and it would look great in our house! xx

Just FYI in case any readers are interested, I saw a very similar nest of marble-top tables at Aldi the other day for 49.99!
I am in total awe of what you and your husband have achieved! I am a few weeks behind you in pregnancy and couldn’t imagine doing the things you have been doing! I have been loving following along on stories!
Curious though – do you mean that the whole house needs a new roof completely? That sounds like a big job!
Alex,
I love you bedroom and decorating style! Is the fireplace functional. What a luxury to have in your bedroom. Is your house detached or semi detached. Can’t wait til you show photos of the fron of it. Best of wishes on your upcoming arrival! OXOX
Wow love it all. So inspiring as always thank you x
I love seeing how your house is coming along. You are doing such a great job!
I can’t wait to see how the outside ends up. Your home has such lovely details, from the tiles in the hall, to the original woodwork, I can totally see why you fell in love with this house.
That room looks amazing, I would never have thought of a four poster until I saw yours, it looks so cool!
Thank you – I copied the Artist Residence hotel to be honest! x
Thank you – the outside is pretty horrendous at the moment – yellow painted brick and we haven’t put the balcony back on the front, the entire front garden was dug up for the ensuite pipes as well – so that’s a huge job in itself….! One step at a time – but hopefully soon x
No the fireplace isn’t functional – but we’ll put candles in it so it feels like it is! It’s semi detached – it was attached by an extension to another house but we knocked that down when we did the study to regain side access – good for Chris when he takes cycling back up again! x
Aah thank you – I think when it ‘has’ to be done you get through it, I am definitely not in the mood to help with the hallway paint job now we’re in this room! Yes – the whole roof need doing….we’ve done a few patch jobs for the time being (which have been expensive in itself) but all the roofers as said it needs doing – we’re just biding our time! x
Oh great to know! xxx
Thank you – and yes, as shallow as it seems – packaging is so important for me, too! x
Thank you – not yet….once the baby is born probably we’ll start. We’re changing a window in that room which will need redecorating again (grrrr) first – but then it will be another room which is really done! x
This is the Holkham from The White Company (it was a xmas present as it was expensive – but I love it…H&M do really good blankets and throws too) x
It was from Wickes! Surprisingly enough! x
I love this look!

Love the whole process of the renovation as well the interiors.
And what about that artwork in the bedroom? Do you frame yours yourself or but framed straight away?
Amazing bedroom!!!
Where did you get your fitted wardrobes? Or did a joiner make them? If so what materials were used? I’m after something similar!
Thank you.
Looks very stylish and very you! Plenty of room for the crib, moses basket or whatever next to your bed. Enjoy the last couple of weeks. Be sure to get plenty of rest as you are about to discover the true value of a good night’s sleep. You are lucky to have a sister nearby for help and tips. All very exciting so love to you both.xx
Thank you! Very excited now xx
A mix really, this is from Partnership Editions – we’re trying to start saving for investment Art rather than prints, this came framed x
We asked our builder to do them as a joiner was too pricey – they made them out of MDF and we painted x
You have done an amazing job! I love everything about this room… and thank you for sharing the basket 🙂
xx
Perfect – thanks! Can’t wait to get painting ?
Hey alex, what paint did you use on your fireplace? Looks like a lovely dark charcoal grey. xxx
Rustoleum chalk paint in ‘Graphite’ x
