New purchase: H+M Trousers

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Coat: Asos. Shirt: Equipment. Trousers: H+M. Clutch: Gap. Trainers: Nike (buy similar here)
What beautiful weather we had last weekend, I used it as an excuse to show my ankles. I bought these H+M check trousers last week on a whim but have not regretted it. I have been wearing a LOT of jeans lately, so it’s a nice change. And I like the combo of doing a tailored trouser with a relaxed shoe…

But what about my new resolution of dressing smarter? A cropped trouser is great for the evening, all you need to do to smarten up this look is add a heel and an earring…

My Nicholas Kirkwood sample sale buys

Dorothy Perkins earrings (an old purchase)
Checks were big last season, but are going to be sticking around for SS14…look for monochrome and gingham styles:
Scuba gingham tee, £28, Topshop
Jumper, £32, Asos

Those check trousers are gorgeous on, I love them both dressed up and down and you are so right at this time of the year I am so fed up wearing jeans so those trousers are a fab alternative. Just a quick ques need your professional, trendy opinion, are Vans (pale grey lace up) old news now, is it all about the slip on..am umming and ahhing about a buying a pair of lace ups I have seen but don't know if they are just a bit last year? thanks x

Hi Avril, I totally get what you're asking, as I hate spending money on something and then feeling like they're already "not quite right". It is about a slipper trainer at the moment but I think the general feel for trainers (especially with Chanel's couture show styleded with trainers) is going to continue, and lace-ups still work! So go for it!

Hi Alexandra, sorry I think I have confused you with the name of my blog, similar to Avrils! Thanks so much, I think you got where I was coming from and thanks for the heads up, I no longer work in fashion and so don't have the insider knowledge I used to so love! Thanks again, Frances x

I've been waiting to see these trousers. So pleased they're affordable I'd have been gutted if they'd been designer. Thanks again for saving my wardrobe!

They're a really nice fit and the length works really well – any longer would feel too "office'y" I think!

School Run Mum why are you worried about the grey lace up Vans being "so last year" as it were? If you like them then go for it. My priorities are : does it suit me, does it go with my wardrobe and can I afford it. Follow your heart (and bank balance) not the fashion pages. Let us all know what you decide. 🙂
