New Trend Alert: The Backpack

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
The Chanel Backpack, SS14. Style.com

Yes, they are here to stay. And I have to say, I am currently loving this trend.

But to do it frugally? It’s quite tricky, this is far more an elegant leather piece as opposed to a Jansport version. On my wishlist? The leopard print Jerome Dreyfuss one or the white punctured leather style by Elizabeth & James.

How to style it…
Dress it down. A cool shirt and jeans would look great allowing your accessory to do the talking. Look for expensive details on your backpack, such as perforated leather, mock-croc effect and cool zips for style kudos.

The Frugal Edit:

My Topshop version

£28, Next
£36, Topshop
£25, Asos
£19.99, New Look

I've been a little slow on the uptake! But now I will start using my Topshop one, there might be no going back x

I love the look of the backpack styled with a chambray shirt and jeans….I am such a fan of a backpack, so practical, the Jerome Dreyfuss bag is stunning and I am also loving the look of the New Look one, low key and 'grown up'.
Thanks for the tips on Barca, I had a look at your fab city guide, my sister lives round the corner from the Boqueria, it really is a gorgeous food market and we love Bar Lobo but haven't been to Bar Velodromo so will definitely search it out!, thanks x

I love the New Look one, too – so grown-up chic! And Velodromo in barcelona is fab, like The Delauney in Spain x

Hi Alex, I really admire you because, although coming from a low social class and low-wage family, you managed to work as fashion editor in a national magazine, a job traditionally reserved to high-profile girls. My congratulations!

The Grafea ones are gorgeous, nice to have real leather, too. I just went for a run but needed my wallet, keys, phone etc – the backpack came in so handy!
