Old (denim) habits die hard…

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
A few months ago, I was being photographed for Red, being groomed by a fabulous team (Linda Andersson for make-up and Heath Massi for hair) and dressed in my new denim style.

The concept was thought up by Laura Fantacci, Fashion + Shopping Editor at Red and founder of WIT Blog, whereby the Fashion Team styled each other to help them out of their denim style rut.

My rut? I can’t get out of my flats and tend to associate denim with a casual, ‘weekend’ look.

Stylist Nathalie Riddle changed my denim persona into a classy, chic look with some killer heels for the day. And this was the outcome…

Photographed by Ezra Patchett. Jacket: Joseph. Shirt: DAY Birger et Mikkelsen. Clutch: Acne at Monnier Freres. Jeans: BLK DNM at Selfridges. Heels: Jimmy Choo.

I wore a pair of ‘coated’ skinny jeans by BLK DNM from Selfridges Denim Studio which have all the coolness of leather skinnies but all the comfort of jeans. And I must admit, I have since bought a similar pair from PAIGE, which I love. They look great for going out with heels (as well as with a grey sweater and leopard flats):

‘Edgemont’ coated jeans, £168.61, Paige Premium Denim at ShopBop
Coated ‘Leigh’ jeans, £42, Topshop

WEAR WITH:

J Crew ‘Tippi’ sweater, now in the sale at £55

These Boden slingbacks are in the sale down to £49.50! I get so much wear out of mine…

See the rest of the Fashion Team (and how I styled Nicola Rose!) in this month’s Red Magazine, out now. And enter the Red social media competition by Tweeting @RedMagDaily or Instagramming @redmagazine a photo of yourself styled by a friend in jeans using hashtag #IStyleU for your chance to win a pair of jeans for you and your friend from Selfridges Denim Studio!

Thank you! I know, it's very Emanuelle Alt – skinny jeans and a blazer! I felt so weird in the heels at first but they give it a more chic finish

Happy New Year Alex! Wishing you a wonderful 2014.

I'm in a total denim rut too (except mine is the opposite to yours and always revolves around skinny black jeans with either ballet flats or ankle boots or high heels), and really must try to be a bit different this year. I absolutely love this look on you though!!

Hi Emma, I don't think they were metallic…they were these but with a slight shine http://tiny.cc/hzhl9w. We got them direct from new Balance PR, not from a store, so sure if you called them up and tell them you've seen them in Red, they can help!
