So I have to admit, with the recent weather, I have been in a style rut of wearing my Asos jeans with EVERYTHING. So I’ve been testing a few new looks and this one I’m really happy with. This is an old Whistles dress which I never wear as it’s a bit too cut-away at the sides, but once I realised I just needed to layer it, a whole new world has opened up to me!
I remember bumping into Briony, from A Girl, A Style wearing the most gorgeous Carven version with a silk blouse underneath and thought “I need to try!”. But mine is clearly the more ‘tomboy’ version – as I love navy blue and a schoolish crisp shirt. I am at risk of looking like a school child (feel free to let me know!) but I’m hoping the leopard shoes escape this.

I think it’s pretty obvious who my style guru is, here – Alexa… |
Just alternate the shirts and voila – a whole new look:

Love this look on you. I have just purchased a similar pair of shoes from Charles Philip Shanghai in the Matches sale. Great minds think alike!
I love this look Alex, very cute and cool! I have a little fashion dilemma for you, if you have a moment – what would you recommend for interview attire? I don't own a suit (and hate them anyway), so a little stuck on what to wear – particularly as I've been working from home for two years and feel a little out of the fashion loop! The job is in marketing/media capacity. Thanks in advance. PS. I actually purchased the ASOS shirt last week, so that's a contender.
I love this for one sole reason: That it isnt the way everyone else seems to be rocking the pinafore trend – ie brogues, frilly ankle socks and a satchel. This is the grown up way and really very you with the shirt paired under…..Perfect and inspirational too boot…
I love that brand…seen some amazing Nicholas Kirkwoods in the sale at browns and trying to resist x
Yes! i think a cool (and expensive looking) shirt looks great. I'd button it all the way up for a more chic office look. I'm wearing a navy Equipment silk shirt with Peter Pan collar at the moment, which always looks so smart. How about wear with a cigarette pant or cool cropped trouser (whistles or jaeger boutique do great ones, also J Crew) and some great flats? Feels so much more modern x
Aaah – thank you! Yes I can in no way do a frilly sock!! It's also a kind of accidental pinafore dress, which I like.
Thanks so much Alex. I have a navy silk equipment shirt too, love it. I may go for that, or the white ASOS one, with black tailored cropped trousers from Cos. Simple and chic I think! xx
