I’ve never really been much of a hat wearer…I always feel a bit of a pratt in one to be honest. Unless it’s a beanie serving a purpose to keep my ears warm, I just feel it makes too much of a fashion statement, a bit like fake glasses – what’s the point?

But this season, a hat is definitely the hero item of the season – whether it be a baker boy hat or a beret, it’s a great piece to update your look.
Always feeling a bit Frank Spencer in a beret, I decided to brave it and actually faced a lot of positive feedback – so I’m going with it. It does add a little something to a classic look of jeans and coat.

It’s not a coincidence that my pregnancy has lead to me looking more at accessories I can buy. Maternity jeans, as useful as they are (and these Topshop ones are great), just aren’t exciting. Whereas these ‘Glazed Ginger’ Vans thrilled me when I ordered them (I first saw them on my Free People shoot in Philadelphia) and I couldn’t wait to slip them on when the box arrived.

You’ll also have probably noticed that everyone is wearing checked coats, blazer, trousers and well, everything lately…it is one of the big trends I mentioned in my Trends round-up and heritage checks in particular are going strong. This Dorothy Perkins version is great quality and much more affordable than most on the market.
All in all, I feel I’ve turned over a new fashion leaf and embracing the cold finally. Still baring my ankles but don’t panic, they’ll be covered up soon…

Another inspiring post, loving yr style as ever, especially the raspberry beret, and have just on line purchased the coat featured! BTW, when I first went on DP website this morning, it advised 9 others had bought coat, when I nipped back on to buy just now, the number had risen to over 100!

The beret looks great on you!
My thoughts exactly on the hat front until I started blogging and decided to give hat a chance. I am loving the beret trend and this look is the perfect balance between French chic and London urban. Those Vans are to die for! Hope the pregnancy is going well, Alex

Ohhhhh thank you Alex, I have been searching for a good checked coat for ages and they’re either too expensive or bad quality. But this one… ordered! Haha!Looking fab in a beret btw xx
Oh I love this coat – honestly, a great buy – wearing it today xxx
Thank you – it’s crazy how popular the beret is this season! xx
Yes I always try not to be too literal – the trainers really dress it down xx
Oh wow, that’s amazing! Hope not everyone has it for our sake 😉 but it is a great buy, wearing it today! xxx
Stylish as ever, Alexandra! Wherever are you hiding that baby? When I look back at all the hideous maternity clothes that were once available……. So I wore my husband’s trench coat mac and bought some wonderful jersey trousers (not maternity) with a ribbed waistband. That Dorothy Perkins coat is going to fly off the rails.
It’s underneath that oversized jumper!! Yes had visions of myself wafting around in kaftans with a summer pregnancy but winter is very different….coats all the way! x
Love this coat! Sadly Dorothy Perkins seem to be struggling with foreign currency conversions, it might be £51 (€60ish) in the U.K. but they kindly charge their Irish customers €90 for the exact same product.
I like this vans very much.
Great coat – and I see that Dorothy Perkins has 25% off today, so it is even better value!
That’s a cool hat – every reason to wear it, in my opinion. Love your footwear too.
Hiii… Alexandra!!!!! I like your hat..Such a lovely color. Specially it looks cool and unique on overcoat. I like the way you represent whole dress with RASPBERRY BERET.
