I sometimes scroll through my own Instagram feed and think ‘do I only wear denim?’. And 90% of the time it’s true. So I’ve made a conscious effort to ditch the jeans and wear proper trousers. Or ‘slacks’ as my mum likes to describe them.
And actually, it’s quite liberating, not to mention comfortable. Khaki trousers are my new best friend, I wear my Madewell ones so often that I got these Gap ones as a back-up – they’re super soft and the wide leg fray keeps them looking modern. I like wearing them with lace-up shoes to elongate the leg as cropped wide-leg trousers can leave you legs looking a bit stumpy.

Khaki always
In terms of colour, khaki is the shade to buy into – it looks so good with denim, stripes, leather – well, most things really. I am pairing it with red as well for a stronger clash. Here, I’ve kept it pretty basic with a quirky tee (is there any other type of tee, right now?!) and my trusty leather jacket which is perfect for this spring weather.

I bought this kitten tee back in January so think it has sold out – it’s definitely a conversation starter! I’m allergic to fur so not really a cat person, but on my tee? That I can do…

So thank you to my Blog, for forcing me to address my recent style rut – sometimes a self imposed deadline is just what I needed…
Long may the slack continue (and may we switch those for shorts and sundresses soon!).

Hi Alex. Where are you bracelets from?
Thanks
Sorry – I always forget to credit jewellery! The fringed one is from H&M and the shark tooth one is from Lucy Williams for Missoma xx
My mom says ‘slacks’ too. Being American it’s not uncommon to use ‘slacks’ but maybe it’s an age thing? I still say ‘pants’ yet preface it as pants/trousers/jeans to be clear. And yoga pants are still not pants nor are they trousers!
haha – yes what are yoga pants…?! Slacks used to make me cringe when I was younger but now I quite enjoy it!
Love this look Alex! I have a similar denim addiction and am pushing myself to wear something other than jeans (easier said than done!) so appreciate the inspo! Judith xx
It’s so my go to wardrobe piece, it’s hard to get out of the routine! x
I love khaki too! I like how you styled it 😉

I adore these olive-green shortened wide slacks worn with black leather jacket and leopard print pumps with block heels. Everything looks casual, but incredibly functional!

I have these trousers in navy and really struggle to pair shoes with them—I love them but nothing seems to go, I’m 5’8″ and still feel stumpy in them! Love this look, though.

Try a lace-up fat sandal that elongate the leg? xx
Hi Alex –
What size did you buy the trousers in? I love them and and am a 10 in most places, but often 8 in Gap. They are only available in 8 but the reviews say they come up small – any thoughts?
Really love that look!
I’m usually a size 10 (in H&M etc) but size 8 in these xx
Hi Alex, did you buy the long leg or regular length? Really love this look by the way!! xx
Ooh – regular length (as didn’t know there was a longer one!) x
Such a pretty outfit you have here dear. Love the details and the overall look! You’re definitely rocking!
