Slip of a thing…

T-shirt: £14.95, Gap. Dress: £34.99, H&M. Bag: Marks & Spencer (old). Sliders: Topshop (mine are old but the same style available in leather here). Photographs: Ella Sadika.

I’ve resisted slip dresses until now.

I find they’re not all that forgiving. I hate anything clinging to my stomach and bias cuts are never good on my hips. That said, I saw this instore a few weeks back and saw the empire-line detail and thought ‘maybe this I could do’.

I’m not brave enough to wear sans crew-neck tee (just yet) but am loving it all the same. With the humid weather a light dress is perfect for appointments around town (a word of warning though, this dress creases like nobody’s business).

The sandals were a purchase back in January (they sold out fast but have since come back in via an array of colours). Mine are velvet and so comfortable, but there are a leather pair available online now. They toughen the look up with a biker jacket.

Sunglasses: £98 including prescription lenses, Ollie Quinn.

In terms of t-shirts, I love J Crew and American Vintage…but on the High Street Gap is still up there, and I’ve been wearing theirs pretty much all summer so far. The vintage marl of this tee is hard to beat and the cotton is super soft – and they make the perfect airport tee for travelling.

So the slip dress makes its first debut into my wardrobe. I’m hoping to break out of the tee soon and wear it on its own later this summer.

  1. love reading your blog always inspires me to step out of my comfort zone and I love how affordable the options are you feel you can take a risk.

  2. Aaaah I tried this on a few weeks back and it jisy didn’t sit right around the top.. should have thought about putting a tee under it ?
