The forever coat edit

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Coat: £329, Baukjen. Tee: J Crew (sold out but buy similar from Gap here). Trousers: Cos(old but buy similar here). Trainers: £52.99, New Balance. Clutch: Clare V at Modern Society (available from Net A Porter here). Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell
Now we know it’s still hot outside but it’s time to start thinking about our outerwear. Yes, puffa jackets are in fashion but I still think it’s important to have a forever, classic style. I love crombie and cocoon shapes which don’t date and if you’re after a printed or colour version, now is the time as statement coats are having a real moment.
I borrowed this coat from Baukjen a few weeks ago for this shot, and love the cherry red for a pop of colour – it works with black and navy so well and I kind of like the matchy matchy trainers. A coat like this is a real investment but one definitely worth making.

Having scoured the High Street for the best around, here is my edit of some great classic, timeless coats that I would buy….rather than a more fashiony piece. Hope you like them, too.

And just so you know what I actually have bought for winter – it’s Number 5 and 7 (almost number 1) and I’ve got my eye on a very similar one to 4 but from Sezane here).

1. Wool pea coat: £99, Marks & Spencer

2. Wool slouchy coat: £95, Topshop

3. Wool coat: £175, French Connection

4. Wool coat: £350, Whistles

5. Wool mix coat: £69, Marks & Spencer

6. Herringbone wool coat: £129.99, Mango

7. Coat: £179, Boden (not loads left so try a more affordable one from Topshop here)

8. Red wool blend coat: £79.99, H&M

Coat: £329, Baukjen. Tee: J Crew (sold out but buy similar from Gap here). Trousers: Cos(old but buy similar here). Trainers: £52.99, New Balance. Clutch: Clare V at Modern Society (available from Net A Porter here).

As I think the cherry red colour coat is perfect for the weekend strolls. I really like to wear a wool coat which makes me warm and comfortable.

Hey Alex. Great post, thanks! I love the cherry Baukjen coat. Do you know of any high street alternative around, by chance?

Hi Ali, it's so lovely, isn't it?! I think it's the colour that no High Street alternative has managed to copy yet, sadly! x
