Tips From The Pros: Frugal Hair and Beauty

Beauty - By Alexandra Stedman
Want to know what the experts actually use? What's worth the money and what isn't? I asked a few of the top hair stylists and make-up artists (whom I often have the privilege of working with) to spill the beans on their secret frugal must-haves...

Mary Wiles, make-up artist (@marywilesmakeup)

Mary is a regular on our Red Magazine photo shoots, and also beautifies an array of red carpet celebrities such as Naomi Watts and Stella Tennant.
“L’oreal extra intense liquid pencil eyeliner is great for the inner eye and creating a smouldering lived in look, it dries waterproof but just enough time to smudge for a flattering sexy eye”.
“Love coconut oil is under £10 great for so many things , which is good when travelling light for work as I can double up on products. Use it as a cleanser, moisturiser, or I put on the ends of my hair to replenish the oils for 20 minutes before I wash it. RMS beauty has a great coconut cleanser”.

"Bioderma Crealine h20 cleanser, from France, is inexpensive and great for taking makeup off without a residue".

Ben Cooke, hair stylist (@bencookehair)
Ben was the mastermind behind the hair on my recent shoot in Barbados, as well as being a regular on the celeb circuit, working with stars such as Nicole Scherzinger and model Cara Delevingne. He is also the co-founder of Lockonego (where I finally got the chop last month!).
“I think all girls should own a Tangle Teezer. As a very old and ‘set in my ways’ hairdresser it took me a while to get my head round the Tangle Teezer. I’m now addicted. Apart from the obvious, they are great for brushing out tonged waves, smoothing a fresh blow dry and even back combing. And so gentle on the hair, so get one for your handbag ASAP.”

“Herbal Essence Bee Strong Intensive Mask is another good multi-tasking product. Ideal for your weekly treatments but also great for the beach – scrunch a small amount into wet hair and allow to dry naturally for beachy waves. Also helps to restore moisture after being in the sea. It smells amazing too!”

Will definitely be ordering the RMS beauty cleanser – I'm nuts about coconuts! I honestly don't know how I managed before TangleTeezer came along – recently got the black & gold travel edition to add to my 'collection' 😉
