Lately, I’ve been getting more and more joy out of the simple things in life. Since attempting to streamline my wardrobe, I have found pleasure in the basics – a good cashmere scarf, a classic grey coat and the ultimate white shirt. Often, when people see my clothes they wonder what exactly is ‘frugal’ about my look – but the truth is, I tend not to clear out my more classic expensive pieces – they do stand the test of time.
So when Gant asked me to work with them on their ‘Diamond G’ white shirt campaign, I was totally sold. I’m a preppy white shirt girl through and through – it’s a total transformer, wear with a classic suit for work, layer under cashmere for the weekend and then pair with a sequin skirt for the evening.
Gant’s ‘they changed the world, not the shirt’ campaign has been really striking – celebrating truly amazing people across their fields. I’m definitely not changing the world with what I do, but can sure appreciate a good shirt.
It may not be the cheapest Oxford shirt, but the quality is there – you can see it in the way the collar sits – the perfect weight and style. And this coat (which is fully lined) will be an item that will stay in my wardrobe for years to come. In fact, I’ve vowed to go on a spending ban for the month of November to counteract my ever expanding wardrobe and save some money – and I’m sure this coat will be one of those pieces that makes everything look a bit more ‘pulled ‘together.
So back to the look. How to make a classic crombie coat look ‘now’? I’m STILL loving the trainers vibe – if you feel comfortable, it’ll look effortless and easy – these Superga platform ones are a more fashion forward nod to the look. Perfect for those meetings where you want to look chic but cool (or if the office won’t allow – a great commuter look). But no need to save tailoring for work – this is a great weekend trend too – suiting is a key trend this season, so won’t be going anywhere for a while.

This post was in collaboration with Gant – who make the ‘Perfect Oxford’ shirt (tried and tested).
Hi Alex, I’m totally on the look out for a quality white shirt, and really like the fit of this one on you. If you don’t mind sharing, what size top are you usually, and what size are you wearing here? I’d usually wear an 8 in tops, but this shirt is only available in a 12 now, so hoping you’ve sized up!? Thanks 🙂
It’s quite slim fitting, I’d go for an 8 or 10 – but it’s the Diamond G range so they do this style all year round if that helps? Maybe call the store? xx
