Birthday Treats

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Jacket: £29.99, H+M. T-shirt: H+M. Skirt: £32, Asos. Bag: Zara. Boots: £75, Office. Suitcase: Tripp at Debenhams

It was my birthday last weekend and I had a wonderful weekend of pampering, spending time with my husband and being tourists in our own city – so much so I thought I’d share my pics…

PREP:

I was ready for some ‘me’ time, so indulged in a Darphin Facial and a Cowshed manicure (I was given some vouchers for my birthday).

The wheat and dairy free diet was off the cards for the weekend, so went to one of our favourite London lunches – Pizza East.

STAY
We checked into Ace Hotel Shoreditch – we got a great deal staying on the Sunday evening (roughly £125 for the night – cheap for London!) and it was such a treat to be within walking distance of all of our fave haunts, not to mention being away from the dustbowl which is our flat after all our building works. The rooms are quite ‘trendy’ so quite basic, but the beds are super comfortable so worth having just an elevator as a commute post dinner.

EAT

Dinner was at ‘Hoi Polloi’, we’d set some money aside for this so really enjoyed it – we loved the relaxed atmosphere and what looked to us like an homage to Alvar Aalto in the decor with the wood and copper interiors (a reference we picked up on our trip to Helsinki). The food was great and the Bloody mary was one of the best I have had.

Jumper: Marks + Spencer (buy similar here). Skirt: £55, Asos. Bag: Jimmy Choo. Shoes: £45, Next but Boden have similar here)

THE MORNING AFTER

Check-out was 12 noon and I always like to stay in the room until the last minute (what can I say, it’s in my frugal nature). We walked to Moorgate and tried Bag Egg for the ultimate hangover cure – the place is great, despite being in a bit of a soul-less office complex. It’s not plated extremely well but the cheeseburger hash is delicious. Pretty much everything on the menu is under £10 too…

Night shirt: £74 (in the sale), Zoe Karssen
Wearing jacket: H+M (old). T-shirt: £43, American Vintage. Jeans: £176, AG Jeans. Trainers: £47.99, Converse at Office
So all in all, the dream weekend. Shame we’ll be paying it off for a while…!

Happy birthday Alex! Will have to check out this hotel next time I'm staying down in London. Have you ever staying at the Hoxton? It is also ace! Ann x

Thanks, it's such a god hotel and everything you need is nearby – independent coffee houses, Cowshed manicures, Pizza East! My friend is the PR for The Hoxton actually, I've done a shoot there and it's fab…they've opened one in Holborn now which is perhaps even cooler! x

Love the bag from Zara. Can't see it online. Is it a recent purchase?

Sadly it's a couple of year old – I remember it was £90 at the time and hated spending the money but it has really stood the test of time! x
