Summer dressing: the peasant top

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Top: £39, Monsoon. Skirt: Hush (old but buy similar here). Sandals: £275, LK Bennett x Bionda Castana. Sunglasses: £152, Ray-Ban. Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell

Every summer, I repeat buy the peasant blouse. It’s a summer staple that goes with everything and I must admit, however much (or how little) you pay, they always come out the following year looking a little worn and the new ones in the shops are just so much more appealing. For me, it’s definitely not something worth investing too much in (although I am still thinking about the Wonder and Weaver versions of the Vita Kin tops). After all, what is summer without buying some flippant summer tops?

I love the stripe on this top, it’s boho but with a preppy twist – and I’m a real sucker for a stripe. I initially thought this would work with ripped shorts on the beach but then thought I’d try a more city feel and think the leather skirt makes it feel smarter. Monsoon have some great peasant tops right now and at such good value (I always though Monsoon was super expensive for some reason), I love this little off the shoulder top too.

We took these photos just behind one of my favourite LA streets, Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice. More to come in my City Guide later but it is a shopping, food and people watching dream. It was a balmy 25 degrees so perfect weather for the peasant top – but apparently it was hotter in London that day – typical.
Bag: £64.50, Aurora London.

And that is why you're a stylist as you're able to see alternative ways to dress up a humble peasant top to keep it modern and interesting. I have a skirt like that – I might have a play!

    Hi Alex
Would you mind sharing what size you have in this monsoon top please?
I want it baggy but not too baggy so not sure on small or medium!
    Thanks xx
