At Home with….me!

Life - By Alexandra Stedman
Jumper: Bella Freud. Dress: MiH (sold out but buy similar from Asos here). Sandals: FitFlop. Photographs: Celia Topping.

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to have the Time Out team over to photograph my flat. It was a dream, as it has always been one of my favourite magazines – plus it was a great chance to a) tidy up properly and b) to have some professional photos taken inside my home for a change!

I thought I’d share the photos here, as it’s a few shots of our updated flat but also some shots of the much anticipated loft (plus means I don’t have to come up with content for a few days!). It’s still not completely finished, and I actually have a post coming up soon with the loft in its entirety – so please stay tuned!
Candle: Bella Freud
This record is the our first dance at our wedding – ‘And Then He Kissed Me’ by The Crystals

Bookshelves painted Farrow & ball ‘Railings’
Sofa: Ikea. Coffee table: £35, Habitat. ‘Tokyo’ cushion, £78.50, Jonathan Adler at Amara
‘Change’ signed print, Ben Eine at Nelly Duff. Cacti, from Ikea
Chair: free from Gumtree (upholstered from John Lewis offcuts). Cushion: bought Jonathan Adler in New York. Blanket: Seasalt Cornwall. Pineapple lamp, £69.50, from Amazon
Terrarium: £35, Urban Outfitters

The loft, at the moment, is still a bit of a white box (and the stairway is still just plasterboard!) – but it’s so calming, we might leave it that way…

Linen bed sheets: Soak & Sleep. Cushion: H&M
Zinc table: £90, Cox & Cox

Our ensuite is possibly the smallest bathroom in the world, but we love it.

Mirror: £35, Cox & Cox. Handwash: £14.95, La Bruket. Hand towel: H&M
Tiles: Topps Tiles (super cheap and a nice alternative to metro tiles)
Our new juicer…
Black wall paint: Wilkinson. Grey wall paint: Farrow & Ball ‘Plummett’. Chairs: buy similar at Vita Interiors

A small part of my husband’s comic book collection
Thank you Time Out (and Celia Topping) for the beautiful pictures – you can see more photos on their site here. A full post on the loft (with not such good photography) will be up next week.

This totally appeals to me – the clean contemporary feel but it's homely through the individual touches. Makes me want to start all over again but I know it will never happen, not now. Will pop over to Timeout for the rest of the pics. Enjoy your beautiful home!

Thank you! The next stage is to rip out the carpets…it'll be a lot of painful ugly floorboards for a while but nothing a big Ikea rug can't sort x

Looks fabulous Alex, I totally relate to your style. Lots of similarities too, including the ornate fire places in our (albeit rented) Edinburgh pad!

Thank you – yes it's a bit of a mish mash – old traditional features mixed with modern interiors we love now….but also styling up a few items we can't quite afford to completely change….it's a modern compromise! I love all the housing in Edinburgh – you're so lucky! xx

i just googled local upholsterers – I found one in Southfields, near me. And john lewis oxford street has offcuts by the till – if you only want a few metres you can find bits in the kind of 'bargain bin' for a fraction of the price x

Hi, it's from Victoria Plumb…..not 100% chic but it's fine for minimal pieces (espcially if you jazz it up with nice tiles around it!) xx

Aw thanks Alex you're a star! Going for a concrete look on the floor and square tiles grey-grout on the wall inspired by a recent trip to SP34 hotel in Copenhagen. Thanks again. Sara x

Is this the bed linen the Soft Blue colour? Does it look more grey than blue in real life?

It's definitely grey, think the light coming into the room makes it look grey x
