Where do you go after wearing comfy Birkenstocks all day everyday last summer…? The dad sandal, that’s where – or ‘dandals’ as I like to call them. We’ve gone from the ‘ugly sandals’ to the downright ridiculous (with velcro straps) – but, once you put these orthopaedic flats on your feet, I promise you there will be no turning back.

Don’t think you could? I draw your attention to the backlash to Birkenstocks pre 2014…where comfort starts, fashion follows.
Hannah Rochell, flat wearer since…well, a long time, and founder of flat shoe blog En Brogue says: “I’ve always been a fan of slightly “ugly” shoes (I’ve been wearing Birkenstocks for 20 years) so Velcro walking sandals don’t feel like a hard transition for me. I loved the Gola ones that were paired with Bermuda shorts at Christopher Raeburn’s SS15 catwalk show (in fact, I promptly bought them) but I’ve fallen really hard for these from Hudson as they feel a bit more fashion forward. It goes without saying that they’re MEGA comfortable, too”.

FitFlop has also got in on the action, and I must admit they’re like walking on AIR:

I want to love, I am trying so hard in my head to love them for the sheer comfort factor. I guess never say never (apart from grown ups wearing crocs) as I didn't like Birks until I got some a couple of years ago. If anyone can make the dandal look good it's you!
Do you know, I would say they look better in real life – when I wore them with these denim culottes, I got so many compliments – they take some getting used to but it's worth it in the end! x
'Dandals' are great, I agree with you. It's the comfort footwear that is also stylish too. Perfect pair to go around town. Whenever I travel, I make it a point to bring a pair.
We did a 10 mile hike on our holiday and I was so glad to have my Tevas on me! My husband got blisters from his Birkenstocks! X
