H&M launches furniture

Interiors - By Alexandra Stedman

Yep, what we’ve all been waiting for – affordable, chic homewares launched by a High Street giant – H&M furniture is here.

Albeit a small offering right now, I’m hoping it will expand in the future.

I kind of predicted this a few years ago when I was chatting to the Head of Design at H&M Home – I was begging for a range of affordable furniture that wasn’t Ikea and she was nodding and smiling. It was probably already in the pipeline then, but I’d like to think I spearheaded the movement.

I’ve been chatting with a lot of readers about the lack of really affordable furniture out there – yes we have Made and Swoon but a console table or cabinet will still set you back upwards of £300. I always look at brands like Target in the US and feel there has always been a gap in the market which only Ikea really fills.

At the moment, for me, this H&M range is gorgeous but I think there needs to be more product and a bit more variation for me to really start shopping – I’ve seen the bench and cushion in Kate Watson-Smyth’s lovely home and it looks fantastic and waiting for an area to be finished to see if we need it! But I am positive the range will evolve over the next year or so.

The H&M pieces in Kate from Mad About The House’s home, see how she styled them here.

The floor cushion and bench styled in Reena from Hygge For Home‘s room.

In terms of practical, chic pieces – it’s perfect. What do you think? I’ve added an edit of the best things to buy below (and a few items are yet to drop such as the woven and black benches, which I have my eye on!)…

1. Rug: £119.99

2. Jute basket: £12.99

3. Mirror: £19.99

4. Stool: £49.99

5. Stone figurine: £19.99

6. Wool pouffe: £79.99

7. Mirror: £99.99 (sold out online currently)

8. Bamboo pendant light: £69.99

I’m with you re Target. Shopped there a lot when we lived in Florida. Even when I go back I can lose hours in there. The prices are amazing for furniture but just won’t fit in my case!

I was so thrilled to see this last week, I just wish there was more. H&M always sends out such beautiful imagery for their home edits and there is always a piece of furniture in the photos that I love, but I get confused as to what is from H&M and what is not. Would love to be able to buy all the pieces in their beautifully styled photos!
