3 days of sunshine and it’s already Spring Summer in my world. Ankles are already out and I’m thinking about pulling down my spring suitcase from the loft. But it IS time to think about your new season purchases, so here’s a little guide on what to look out for:
SLIP DRESSES

Just when we thought we couldn’t get any more 90s…the slip dress returns. Admittedly, it’s a tough trend to get on board with (I’m already getting sweaty palms thinking of the clingy unforgiving fabric). But how about layered over a breton top, or under a chunky jumper showing just the hem? If Celine has done it, the trend is not going away so time to embrace it – and I think layering is the key.

BALLERINAS
Lace-up flats have been around for a while but the ballet flat? Fuse the two and you have a dreamy everyday shoe with a bit more fashion ‘oomph’. I’d wear them with raw edge denim to toughen them up.

RUFFLES

Less romantic than seasons before, look for more starchy fabrics and ruffle and frill details in shirts, cotton poplin and more structured clothing (the fab M&S one is now available here). Wear with boyish flats and chunky shoes to balance out the look.

Wide side stripe track trousers with an off shoulder top, a sports jacket with a floaty feminine skirt – this trend’s about juxtaposition. I love it and already have the M&S version of this top which is almost identical and only £45. Sorted.
GINGHAM

In a meeting with J Crew yesterday, they were saying that gingham is a key trend for them – and it certainly was – shoes, shirts, blazers, coats. And I’m into it – think of an oversized gingham shirt over a black swimsuit on holiday. Or a pair of chic flats with your cropped jeans and blazer in the spring.

STRIPES
Well that’s justified my entire wardrobe, then.

Cast your eyes briefly away from the amazing basket bag (which I need, too) – and yes, it’s okay to go out in slippers this season. I’m going to go for a classic black pair to wear with jeans and chiffon dresses (All Saints currently have a waiting list with my name on it).
I'm currently obsessing with ruffles and stripes – not in combination though! 😉
