Granny chic

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Coat: Whistles (old). Scarf: Next (old). Jeans: AG jeans (similar here). Shoes: £59, Topshop
I know, I know. But I love them.
It has taken us a good few seasons to adopt these from the Celine hoof like shoes seen on the catwalks a while back but I am well and truly smitten. I mean, just look at that tiny block heel, and that super soft leather, and they’re grey – these shoes were meant for me.
Not so beautifully known as the ‘glove’ shoe (I prefer the ‘heeled ballerina’ description or as someone described them ‘Barbie’s shoes’), these Topshop shoes have seen their way into many a Fashion Editor’s wardrobe – and they come in an array of colours. I for one am excited for a walkable heel (I’m thinking ahead to the painfully cold London Fashion Week here, approaching fast), and have found myself looking at a few similar styles online.

Styling-wise, they look great with girlfriend fitting jeans, especially good with frays (a la Brittany Bathgate, my new instagram girlcrush). They’re not to everyone’s taste but I love the clean, minimal style. Good news for the fans? The High Street has gone crazy for them – so let your inner granny go wild and stock up for spring.

Coat: Whistles (old). Scarf: Next (old). Jeans: AG jeans (similar here). Shoes: £59, Topshop. Bag: £139, Radley

I'm very definitely in two minds about these shoes but somehow you make them look amazing! I can see the attraction but at 45 perhaps I'm a little too near to the age of a Granny to make them look cool!!!!

Thank you – they're a tricky shoe so I always think 'stick to a neutral' x

I absolutely love them – I have the Zara pair, and Mango have a gorgeous tan pair. Tempted by the Juno in red – stunning!

You are so quick off the mark (and braver than me!) – saw the Mango ones – like the suede as well, might need to investigate! x

I love them- they are a bit similar to the Chloe scalloped mid heels too. So good for work. What is the sizing like? I'm in Australia so I have to order online… I'm usually a 37.5 in other brands but topshop I find runs a bit small…

Yes – love the Chloe ones, too! So I am a straight 39 and they fit fine, but a few friends have said they come up small…so maybe a 38 would be good for you x

Just bought a Clarks version in black (Ammeline Eve, were £80 now £32 in sale). They're so comfy and flattering though technically 'ugly' – would never have considered them if I had not read your post so thank you!

Alexandra, those shoes are just brilliant. Low heels are so chic. Whats the colour? They look lilac to me. Glad to have found your blog. Very very stylish girl !
