5 things you probably should buy now for summer

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

I’ve been buying a few summery items lately and have my eye on so many news finds, and realised I should probably share them with you, before they sell out! I’ll be in Marrakech as you read this, so you’ll probably spy me in a few of the buys below:

1. A Boilersuit

In my Topshop boilersuit from last summer – one of my best ever buys

The difference between a jumpsuit and a boilersuit? The boiler is more relaxed, boyish and generally has shirt sleeves. And it looks just as great with heels as it does dressed down with trainers or chunky flats.

Denim boilersuit, £65, Topshop

2. Lace-up sandals

Yes, chunky flats are still in (don’t ditch the Birks, just yet) but I am upping my flats game with a pair of lace-up Roman sandals.

You can go High Street for these – Topshop and Zara’s pairs are already selling out – but I’ve used this as an excuse to buy some Ancient Greek Sandals, a totally classic style which have been on my wishlist for ages.

My Ancient Greek Sandals with fringed skirt, £24.99, H+M
Leather ‘Alcyone’ sandals, £110, Ancient Greek Sandals at My Theresa

3. A Suede Skirt

Wearing the Oasis suede skirt at LFW
Undoubtedly, the fabric of the season. Wear with a fine knit now and then go bare legged and wear with a t-shirt later on.
Suede skirt, £99.99, H+M
4. A Boho Dress/Top/Anything

It was the same old story last summer and it’s not going away, feel the 70s vibe in a tunic style top or dress (preferably with tassels) – plus it’s the easiest packing piece for minibreaks and holidays.
Dress, £35.99, Zara
White lace trim top, £22.99, New Look
Cotton tassel tunic, £45, Next

5. A Khaki Shirt

The easiest way to tap into the utility trend – a khaki shirt will offset a pair of blue jeans perfectly. And then wear over a bikini on your holiday…

Cotton shirt, £12.74, H+M

And if you’re feeling daring…pair with my latest obsession (which has even taken me by surprise) – white denim. I’ve recently bought white boyfriend jeans AND white dungarees – not sure what has come over me!

‘Hayden’ jeans, £42, Topshop
Jeans: MiH Jeans at Selfridges. Boots: Free People. Coat: Asos. Bag: Atterley Road

Great post Alex…can I ask where you got your white dungarees from ? I've had my eye on a pair in H&M and am wondering whether to take the plunge.

    Enjoy the rest of Marrakech!

I bought the H&M ones – LOVE them! Saw alexa in a pair with casual shirt and birkenstocks with white dungarees and convinced me….x

I was tempted by the lace up sandals but I got mine from Mango at a fraction of the price!

Love the Ancient Greeks – my favorite sandals – and I am so tempted by the TopShop boiler suit but fear it will be too warm here soon to wear it! I'm lusting after the Stuart Weitzman Backview to fix my gladiator lust!

Lucky you – too warm! Stuart Weitzman's S/S collection is so good this season – and such good quality x

Your boiler suit from last year looks incredible. Really useful list, just need to get into my summer frame of mind now!

I am so pleased I got it last year. Hate to say it but sometimes you need to buy early…I didn't go on holiday until September last year and by the time I was looking to buy some last minute bits, it was all coats and boots in the shops!

Ancient Greeks are on my wish list too for summer, although there is a great pair in Zara kids (I fear they may have sold out now, haven't checked this week) I am however loving your shoes that you are wearing with your boiler suit, they are totally gorgeous! x

Jealous you can fit in Zara kids! I had a 30% one-off discount for Ancient Greeks so it helped a bit….and I'm telling myself it's an investment!

    Hi Alex,

I love the boiler suit – do you mind me asking what size yours is? As I'm a similar shape to you and i want to hunt one down on eBay – it looks like an 8 or 10?
    Thanks x
