What to wear to speak at London Fashion Weekend?

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
T-shirt: £40, Topshop Unique. Skirt: H+M (buy similar here). Shoes:  £120, Topshop Unique

Last month I was asked by the British Fashion Council to host a talk at London Fashion Weekend – it was such an honour to be invited and I have to admit, it was one of the highlights of my career.

But what to wear? I knew I wanted to wear High Street, but the best of it. I went with Topshop Unique statement heels and tee and paired with an old H&M skirt – as the Topshop Unique A/W15 LFW show was my favourite of the season. I wanted to be dressed up but also understated – my shoes got A LOT of attention (and they are actually comfortable!).

With the lovely presenter, Antonia O’Brien

we chatted about all things fashion, what I have learnt from 11 years in the industry and advice for people getting into fashion. My advice was mainly: work hard and be nice to people! It takes a HUGE commitment to work in fashion – it is not just a job, but a lifestyle. but if you love it enough, your hard work and determination will shine through. Every job I have got has been through recommendations, it’s such a small industry and everyone knows everyone. If you’re a hard worker, your name will pass around. The talk was over subscribed – the room was full to the rafters – and I had the chance to speak to a few people after the talk which was really amazing – I hope I managed to inspire a few people!

!function(d,s,id){var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? ‘http’ : ‘https’;if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + ‘://’ + ‘widgets.rewardstyle.com’ + ‘/js/shopthepost.js’;d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__stp === ‘object’) if(d.readyState === ‘complete’) {window.__stp.init();}}(document, ‘script’, ‘shopthepost-script’);

    It sound like you really enjoyed it! I'm a terrible public speaker and envy anyone who can.

      I am definitely not good at public speaking but through my job, I'm expected to more and more and I must admit, the more I do it, the better I get…

    I'm not surprised that this is one of your career highlights, it's the British Fashion Council after all – what an honour. And I think your outfit was perfectly pitched. The shoes – the shoes – I love!

    And it's a conversation I always have with another friend of mine – always be nice – the world is much smaller than you think.

    Wow – those shoes! I love your skirt too – the pockets make it. I so miss LFWeek-end. My sister and I used to go religiously then she moved to Dublin and hasn't managed to get back for any. I'm not surprised your talk was over subscribed, would have loved to have been there. x
