Toughen up: Bomber jacket

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Bomber jacket: Urban Outfitters (old but buy similar from Asos here). Skirt: Next (sold out but buy similar from Hush here). Bag: Accessorize (sold out but the leopard version is available here). Trainers: New Balance (sold out but buy similar here). Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell

Coat-wise: there’s a new mood. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good oversized coat as much as the next person but now spring is coming (sartorially speaking, of course) it’s time to think about new shapes.

With London Fashion Week just around the corner it means I’m thinking about different silhouettes.

Stripe top: Uniqlo (buy similar here)

I bought this jacket last year from Urban Outfitters, I hadn’t been in for years but was so surprised with its offering and value for money. This jacket was around £45 and it’s perfect for a warm in between coat when spring doesn’t quite get there.

I didn’t actually wear it much as it still felt a bit too tough and ‘cool’ for me but I’ve slowly come round to it and a year on, it feels right. I’ve worn bombers before, but they’ve generally been a bit more embellished and fancy. This seems more raw 90s, ‘This Is England’ vibe. And I like it.

I’ve been wearing this a lot with jeans but thought I needed a break. In the move, I haven’t actually found any trousers other than jeans (hopefully no one has noticed!) so dug out this skirt for something different. I’m still wearing my New Balance, made all the better with sheepskin liners – it just means they’re my go-to now – and my feet are extra toasty. My ankles are still freezing but I’ve never really been one for tights.

As we’re heading into London Fashion Week, I always dread this time of year. The hardest thing is finding chic yet warm fashion solutions. so am thinking this bomber and my Uniqlo puffer jacket might be the answer. Bring on the layers…

Hi Alex – awesome look!! I wanted to ask you about your UGG sheepskin liners- have they lasted well? I loved the idea of them when you posted about them before but being a cheapskate bought the John Lewis version for £4 rather than splashing out on the proper UGG ones!! The JL ones felt awesome at first but after less than 2 months use they’ve gone all flat and are no longer warm and fluffy… so disappointed and wondering if I should just accept the cost and buy the UGG ones instead! Thanks x and enjoy LFW!
