How to wear florals now

It’s that age old thing, it’s freezing cold but blink and you miss it. This is definitely the case with H&M – I fell in love with this skirt last week in store and was so desperate to wear it straight away. But how exactly do you do florals in winter?

Firstly, the length is key. At this time of year I needed something just long enough that I could get away without tights (for me, it would ruin this look – the slither of skin between the edge of the pleats and the boots is the appeal of this look). Secondly, the type of floral is important – this season it’s much more a botanical fluid print than an oversized or digital motif. And then there’s the pleats, and the different lengths, which make this skirt feel more modern.

It’s those little nods to spring that make the winter seem less laborious. As usual, I’ve worn with one of my fave Gap cashmere jumpers (worn on rotation currently), and my Jigsaw pea coat adds a more feminine touch rather than one of my heavier, oversized coats.

And I must admit, I was in a bit of a London Fashion Week mindset when buying this – a time of year when you have to think a season ahead. Everyone will be in Spring’s trends already, so you kind of need to just get involved.
It is currently the only floral item in my wardrobe and I love how it has injected a bit of femininity to my overly grey and black aesthetic, currently. Watch this space…
