CHUNKY KNITWEAR

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Quick Read

Coat: Jigsaw (old but similar available here from M&S). Jumper: H&M Conscious Collection (sold out but available in khaki here). Jeans: Gap (old). Bag: Kurt Geiger (old). Boots: Tabitha Simmons (old). Photograph: Christopher O’Donnell.

I’m not really a winter person, if I’m honest. But I do love a good chunky knit, whether it’s with my trusted jeans or a pair of wool joggers on the sofa at home. And I am an even bigger fan of the colourful printed knitwear that’s on the scene right now (leopard print, anyone?) – just add a pair of statement earrings and it can triple up as an evening look, too. Just make sure you try it on underneath your coat as those chunky sleeves can be tricky – hence this Jigsaw coat had to be worn over the shoulders!

Coat: Whistles (old). Jumper (gifted): Sezane. Jeans: Gap (old)

My wardrobe mainly consists of crew-necks, I often find roll-necks quite suffocating – so I look for wide, funnel neck styles personally so I don’t overheat on the tube.

Jumper: H&M (old). Skirt (part of a different paid project): Next. Trainers: Veja.

Here’s our selection of the best on the High Street (side note: I now use a Guppy Bag at home for my washing so that microfibres don’t leak into the oceans when washing):

Jumper: £52, La Redoute

If you were looking for a winter update to the breton, then this is it. La Redoute also have a promo code with 40% off right now (code: WINTER).

Jumper: £25, Marks & Spencer
Cardigan: £29.99, Zara
Jumper: £35, Emma Willis x Next
Cardigan: £85, And Other Stories
£95, French Connection
£30, Next
£34.99, H&M
£50, Weekday

I loved the Cream H&M jumper you’ve featured, and have bought it in Khaki, it’s a dream in real life!

That French Connection one above is beautiful BUT I bought it in black and white several years ago… I have to say it has not washed well and nearly from the beginning I regretted spending the money 🙁 I still wear it at home as it feels super soft, but it bobbled straight away (I don’t think it was my washing cycle??) I’m sticking to H&M this time.

Oh so interesting, thank you! We don’t feature French Connection very much but thought this was totally worth it – this is sad to hear. Yes, the H&m one is tried and tested and I love it, too – contemplating the khaki! xx

    Hi Alex,
Only just spotted the M & S jumper yesterday so what a coincidence you have featured it here! It stood out amongst all the other stuff in there but frankly our store is small and not very exciting. I also love the Next Emma Willis one – such a vibrant colour. Your comment about sleeves is so true. Still loving the new website.

Thank you for sharing the matching options for the knitwear! I must say you’ve done it quite well! I want to look as good as you do the next time I wear knits. I should probably shop for some that can match with my jeans.
