Denim addict: Mom jeans

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Coat: Topshop (sold out but buy similar here). Bag: Marks & Spencer (sold out). T-shirt: £15, Topshop (instore but buy similar online here). Jeans: £40, Topshop. Shoes: Topshop (old). Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell

Somewhere in the last year, I stopped looking at skinny jeans. I don’t know when it happened, and I’m definitely not ruling them out forever but I keep repeat buying a more looser, relaxed style.

I love the tomboyish ease of Mom jeans, they go well with flats for running around town and the higher waist is just more flattering for me nowadays.

And the best bit?

The High Street has really caught up with the styles. Topshop’s denim has always been great, and I’ve gone through all their styles over the year – the ‘Jamie’ skinnies, the ‘Dree’ cropped bootcut and this time I’ve gone for the Mom jeans in a more washed, grey denim – as goodness knows I don’t need anymore blue jeans…

Coat: Topshop (sold out but buy similar here). Bag: Marks & Spencer (sold out). T-shirt: £15, Topshop (instore but buy similar online here). Jeans: £40, Topshop. Shoes: Topshop (old).

They grey jeans add a bit more of a vintage feel to this look, which sets off the trend of the moment: a logo tee.

I’ve had my name down for the Sezane ‘L’amant’ tee so when I saw this version instore for £15, I knew it was meant to be. Plus, if you look from afar it could say ‘Frugality’ rather than ‘Sugar’ so it pretty much has my name all over it.

I realised that my last few outfit posts have mainly been in denim, but with our house renovations, my busy work schedule and always being on my feet, I need to feel comfortable yet cool – so jeans it is! Plus they go with everything.

Earrings: £32, Finery London.

One last thing: the earrings. I know I mentioned it last Fashion Week but it’s even bigger now – and a pair of fab earrings can really lift a plain jeans and tee look. I’ve fully adopted the look and you’ll be seeing more and more ear candy as time goes on…

This post was in collaboration with Topshop. All words, styling and creative my own.

I like the idea but I’m not sure it’s a trend that works at all on anyone with curves… Would be interested to know if you’ve seen larger girls pulling off this style of denim?

Hi Emily, good question – I feel there’s a lot more boyfriend styles on people like Helen Anderson (she would look good in anything, though!) so I think there is a shift towards it xx

I am just loving this look! I totally agree with you, the high street has really picked up on the mom jean trends and Topshop has such an amazing selection, they fit perfectly and don’t make you feel too undone! Plus the earrings just elevate the whole look!

Hi! I just came across your blog and really like it! How perfect to just transform the t-shirt slogan into your blog name – very smart 🙂
