Ear candy: Statement earrings

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Earrings: £65, J Crew. T-shirt: La Redoute (old but buy similar here). Sunglasses: Le Specs (old but shop the collection here). Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell

Earrings are back in a big way.

And by that I mean really big.

The good news is that the High Street has picked up on this in a major way. And the even better news is you don’t really need to style them, let the statement earrings do the talking.

I’ve tried with my fave logo tees (and THE Next peasant top…scroll to see), but I’d also wear with a crew-neck and trousers – or try with a classic shirt and jeans.

Earrings: £65, J Crew. T-shirt: £40, Sezane. Trousers: £35.99, Mango. Lip colour: ‘Bright Poppy’ by Bobbi Brown

I bought these J Crew earrings in NYC – a little treat to myself and the only thing I bought whilst there. I borrowed them for my stripe shoot and fell in love – I mean, think of big earrings and you can’t really not think of J Crew.

And this tee? The ultimate logo tee – and what’s even better, all profits go towards UN Women charity.

Earrings: £12.99, Mango. T-shirt: £28, Girl Stole London. Trousers: £35.99, Mango.

So Mango is my High Street store of choice, currently. They’re just getting it right. Love these ivory tasseled ones, which will come with me on my summer holidays, too.

Tit-tees

And you may have seen these t-shirts across Social Media recently. A fab lady called Lauren started selling these ‘Tit-Tees’ to help her through chemotherapy, pay her bills and 25% of sales are donated to Breast Cancer Haven.

Earrings: £7, Asos. Top: £44.50, J Crew.

Right about now, you’re probably thinking ‘Did she buy all these earrings for this post?’….and you’d be right. I admit it, I selflessly trawled the internet and purchased these so I could show you how they looked on.

These Asos earrings are super light, and for those who can’t quite handle the big tassels. After all, they’re not for eveyone. These are a bit more evening-y yet subtle bling. And £7.

Earrings: £6.99, Mango. Top: £40, Next.

Probably the easiest earrings to wear, I’ve been wearing these most days since getting them. They’re essentially a modern, abstract take on the hoop earring.

And the top? Probably my best High Street pick so far – it sold pretty quickly after showing on my Stories, but there are a few sizes left. I can’t wait for warmer climes.

Earrings: £8.99, H&M (bought in store). T-shirt: La Redoute (old). Jeans: Asos (old).

These are one of those pairs of earrings that everyone has. They go with everything, and as soon as I put them on after buying them in store, I was stopped in the street and asked where they were from. They’re not for everyone, but if you’re after your first pair, for £8.99 you can’t really go wrong.

I love the fact you don’t have to spend a fortune to add a bit of drama…you’ll be seeing a lot more of these earrings over the next few months.

I noticed a pair on two on your IG feed recently, I think one was from H&M. I think it’s great big ones are back (I remember the 80’s as a teen!), as having longer hair, tiny pieces get gidden.
I’m loving that gypsy top, so bright & fab for summer!

[…] I used to wear big earrings all the time with longer hair. With short hair I always felt very self conscious with big earrings, and then with the addition of a rook, daith, tragus and helix piercings it all felt a bit overwhelming to try and wear big danglers. That said I’m always very envious of those that carry them off with absolute aplomb like Alex here. […]
