Frugal Glasses: ToyShades

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Sandals: £24, Next. Sunglasses: ToyShades. Jeans: £210, Paige

If ever I was jealous of a company pipping me to the post of a business idea, ToyShades would be it. Affordable, cool, accessible prescription sunglasses and glasses. Who ever said you could only ever have one pair of lenses? Why not mix it up, and when these frames cost around £40 with prescription lenses (often while you wait!), you can afford to be a bit more adventurous.

And the range they have is so vast that whether you’re after something fashion forward, or a more classic shape, you can guarantee there will be something for you. Frames start at £20 and then standard lenses start from £20 (the only lenses you can’t get as prescription are mirrored).

I ordered the Anderson frames and couldn’t wait to be able to wear sunglasses without contacts in for once – and it’s a real game changer.

So you can shop ToyShades range online or they have a concession in Topshop Oxford Circus currently offering 1 hour prescription turnaround (for most cases – my prescription was too strong sadly!), and it’s doing really well – no surprise there though, really – it’s a genius concept.

‘Huxton’ frame, from £20
‘Anderson’ frame, from £20
‘Gortey’ in Havana tortoise, from £20
‘Polo’ frames, from £20

I completely love this, what a good idea!! I bought prescription sunglasses for the first time last year and they were a summer game changer…but sooo expensive. This is inspired, thanks so much for this amazing tip off Huxton glasses I coming for you! Xx

Brilliant idea – I can see why you are gutted that they beat you to it! These will be a revelation to my 16 year old whose eyesight (sadly) is not great, bless her.

A long time coming but so glad it's finally here – wish they had something like this whilst I was growing up – I always had to wait until my bday for a pair!

What a genius idea at affordable prices! I'm a -7 so guessing I wouldn't get an hour turn around but worth a wait at those costs. Thanks for sharing x

HEY there. I am thinking of getting a pair of these but what do you think of the quality? Does it hold up well?

Hi! They're great for one summer or so, but mine have started to lose their colour a bit. I would recommend Bailey Nelson, more pricey but far better quality xxx
