Look Who’s Back – The Frugality Blog

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell.

It’s June, the sun is shining and I’m back on the Frugality blog!

I have had an amazing three months off and feeling refreshed and excited with new content ideas. That said, I’m going to give myself the freedom to have a break if I need, as never want to regret coming back to the blog too soon – I’m only coming back because I want to.

Jacket: £90, Sezane. T-shirt: Sezane (old). Bag: £230, Sezane (jacket and bag borrowed as part of a shoot). Skirt: £80, Boden. Shoes: Zara (old).

So, things are going to be different around here going forward. Working on Instagram around Peggy these last few months has been challenging, and although there are two of us, we don’t have any childcare in place so any type of shoot involves A LOT of planning!

And since I started blogging in 2012, the way people consume blogs and social media has changed dramatically. So the blog will now reflect this, and I will be posting less but meatier content, which will be live (hopefully!) every Monday. Less generic outfit posts and more thoughts, musings and practical pieces.

Top: £40, Olive & Frank. Skirt: £109, Baukjen. Espadrilles: £70, Toms x Clare V. Wicker bag: £20, Dorothy Perkins. Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell.

Sponsored posts will still play a part in this content (I hope you don’t mind, as this is what allows me to continue posting and providing the free content that you enjoy), but any sponsored posts will be labelled as such (as always) and will be ‘extra’ content on top of the Monday posts.

As mentioned before, I put just as much thought and energy into sponsored posts to suit my blog style and I never promote anything I don’t like, or a brand I’ve never worn before (see my piece on posting authentically here).

Finally, I would love to hear what  you would like to see more of on the blog. I will continue to cover style, great buys, renovation updates, travel, thoughts on the industry and the transition to motherhood. I will also be doing YouTube but more to support content when it works rather than a regular focus.

But as always, it is good to hear feedback on what works for you, as a reader, too – so please make sure you let me know!

It’s good to be back.

You may not have been around as much but your influence remained. I bought yet another pair of striped tops in the newly open Seasalt in Guildford!

I only use Twitter and follow your blog and you posted just enough in recent weeks to make sure you still had a visible presence. I look forward to reading more from you in the next few weeks but remember with small children plans have to be flexible?

    Take care

Ergh – know what you mean! I haven’t got anything in the pipeline but might do as have had a few requests….luckily I have quite a few button front dresses in my wardrobe, which have been a godsend…and I usually just wear a t-shirt I can pull up easily with a sports bra/crop top – weirdly much less fuss than buttons and unclipping! Doesn’t draw so much attention xx

Welcome back yummy mummy. Have missed you but really pleased you took a break to get to grips with motherhood ( if there is such a thing) & fall in love with Peggy. I have been following you on Instagram though & been marvelling how you’ve managed to juggle everything & adapt. I think you’re one of those rare people who just make everyone feel better about themselves as a woman. Not just cos of your great taste & style & how effortless you make that look but your capacity to connect & be authentically you. Your values & sense of responsibilty shine through. No one in the blogging world does that as well as you in my estimation. So thank you & keep up the good work xx

Great to see you back! Those three months have sped by!
As for sponsered comment, go for it – this is part of your living after all! And I for one trust you to only collaborate on things that are you, I’ve not yet seen you do anything that doesn’t seem to fit in with your style and ethos. I know some don’t like sponsered content, but that’s like reading the magazine in the shop and not buying it! Affiliated links are fine by me too, for the same reasons!
As for content, I’m still struggling to find a summer jacket that isn’t denim but still short, casual and not too boxy – any ideas?

Love the change in the content, and that you have adapted some thing since becoming a mother. As a working mother myself I have grappled with things being “just as they were” when really It has probably been “the ‘same’ but better”, if that makes sense.

I would love to hear your thoughts on sharing your child on social media and safety (I share pics of my daughter, but not at school or in real time) and also your plans for childcare in the future.

Welcome back and well done for managing to do mother and work together whilst maintaining a balance and thanks Cx

Yes this is such a good point! It’s such a weird idea, sharing your child and in these first few months we’ve been together every minute so feels weird not to include her in pictures…but I am becoming increasingly aware of a) her consent b) using a baby for ‘likes’ or ‘sponsored’ content c) security. It’s something we’re going to muddle through and I know my husband is a bit concerned about too many photos after 6 months so we will see! xxx

Hey Alex, so good to see you back on the blogosphere, I missed your posts!
Just one thing – please, please, please keep your content as it has always been and don’t become one of those mummy-bloggers… I understand new mums’ life changes a lot and becomes all about the baby but it’s frustrating for us non-mothers when so many of our favourite blogs just become about the babies!
I adore your style, love your interiors and I’d like to continue seeing these things on your blog and Insta.

I’m hoping to! There will be a few ‘life lessons’ posts about motherhood as I suppose my world is evolving but will definitely not be all birth stories, routines and only mum chat – I believe you can be a mum and still into other things, too! xxx

Hi Alex, love your blog but definitely think less content is the way to go, esp with Insta. It doesn’t seem like you’ve had a break at all. I love how you often wear “old” pieces so would like to hear how you keep things looking good, places you use for repairs (e.g. shoes) etc. Realise that sounds a bit dull but would be useful. X

Aah thank you and not dull at all! A tip my mum taught me was to replace the soles of your shoes with rubber soles (sounds hideous but I did this with an old pair of Balenciaga sale buys and they’re still going strong 8 years on!) xx

Welcome back! I always love how refreshingly honest your posts are! I love your outfit posts and always find them hugely inspirational – particularly as you feature the same item across posts over the years. I also love your concept of being “frugal” as I think it’s the most relatable of all my favourite bloggers! Happy to spend money on investment items but ultimately it all has to be a balance.
