Loungewear

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Cashmere jumper (machine washable): £75, Marks & Spencer.  Wool leggings: £34.95, Gap

I can’t quite believe I’m writing a blogpost on, essentially, comfy pants. But that’s just where my life is right now.

Last weekend I went on a surprisingly successful trip to Gap and picked up these leggings…I felt so indulgent spending money on something I probably won’t even leave the house in…but it got me thinking about why I don’t want to feel ‘luxe’ inside my house, too? Let’s face it, now that winter has set in and I work a lot from home, I spend pretty much 70% of my life inside. I hate sitting around in jeans and ‘outside’ clothes and get changed as soon as I get in. So I decided to dedicate my spending money a bit more on loungewear.

Cashmere jumper (machine washable): £75, Marks & Spencer.  Wool leggings: £34.95, Gap. Slippers: £85, Ugg Australia
A few years ago I only asked for nice pyjamas for birthday and christmas, so that when I get changed for bed I feel chic, rather than wearing a sloppy old band t-shirt. Now my nightwear drawer is a joy to open (as Marie Kondo would say). And that is going to be the same for loungewear. But there is no need to be head to toe in Bamford (as much as I love) to feel a bit luxey – M&S machine washable cashmere, and THESE Gap leggings are everything…
Basically, you want to look relaxed but also chic enough to be able to pop to the shops if you need…

I’ve gone a size up so they’re not super tight, they’re wool but stretchy and soft and feel more like cashmere. They would equally work well with an oversized knit for a plane journey – and did I mention they have roomy pockets?
Cashmere socks: The White Company. Candle: £17, And Other Stories. Jumper: £80, Hush. blanket: Eileen Fisher (old). Leggings: Gap. Slippers (which have seen better days): £85, Ugg Australia

Those Gap trousers are honestly what dreams are made of – honestly, Gap is SO underrated! I love it. And sounding like an absolute granny, I splashed out and bought a cashmere jumper from M&S and it washes wonderfully *no dry cleaning* dun dun dah! Love all your other picks x

Great post, and trip to Gap tomorrow lunchtime on the cards. I'd love to buy (and by buy, I mean get some for Xmas!) some fancy PJs that aren't crazy expensive – where would you recommend?

It's great the the moment, and their cashmere is my favourite. What do you mean by crazy expensive? My absolute FAVOURITE brand are Desmond and Dempsey – short pyjama sets are under £100 and long ones are £130 – and amazing cotton poplin. And so much cheaper than Yolke and Equipment which are between £280-£400. Anything much cheaper and it's not great quality. I have a pair of bruched cotton ones from hush I love, which are around £50…x

Thanks! I'm thinking around the hush price range. I definitely can't ask for Equipment pjs for Christmas!

I completely get it! I spent ages this year searching for an alternative to my Nike black (now grey) joggers. I change as soon as I get in and know I'm not going out again. I love nothing better than a good pair of comfy joggers. I finally ended up paying more than I wanted for a pair by Sweaty Betty, but they were in the sale at £40 so felt a little better. Gap have just done a 40% off for their mailing list customers but I don't have one near me or else I would definitely be popping in to try out your pair. I literally feel lost when I have to wash my S Betty pair now! x

Gorgeous bottoms! I love GAP – it's so under-rated but has some fabulous basics. I'm totally with you on loungewear – I hate wearing "outside" clothes inside, especially when I'm done for the day. Love my Topshop fleecy lined bottoms too. Love the blog!

Thank you – I always find the blogposts I least expect to be interesting (loungepants) become the most receptive! Love that so many people are on the same level x

Love those leggings! Have a few M&S cashmere jumpers and they are brilliant. The least bobbly cashmere I have. Liking that round neck one! Why didn't I investigate when there was a 20% code last week?

My M&S cashmere hasn't bobbled at all! Neither has my Gap one from last year, actually xx

Would you size up in the M&S cashmere jumper to achieve a relaxed fit too?
    Thanks 🙂

Yes! I'm wearing a size 10, but would usually do size 8 in M&S — I love oversized cashmere x
