Postcards from NYC Fashion Week…

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Jacket: Monsoon (sold out). Tee: £12.95, Gap. Belt: £8, Asos. Jeans: £49.95, Gap. Shoes: £115, Cos. Bag: £89, And Other Stories. Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell (and yours truly) using Olympus PEN E-PL7
Last week we attended our first New York Fashion Week. How fashion of us.
But really, my husband and I love the city, so any excuse to go worked – plus we love shooting on the streets of NYC, and often some of the shows and presentations (Tibi, Club Monaco, J Crew etc) are actually more relevant for my dissecting of the trends. I know fashion shows seem ‘silly’ to the outside eye, but it is so good for getting a ‘vibe’ of the season and seeing and touching clothing up close is very important. Even being around street style these days helps to take in all the trends.

We stayed 2 nights in a Hotel: we booked The Conrad which was half the price of any hotel and sooooo fancy – all rooms were suites – but then realised why when we arrived. The hotel is situated near Ground Zero and it was the 15th anniversary of 9/11. I would recommend the hotel, but you possibly won’t get as good a deal as we did!
And then the next 2 nights we booked an Air BnB in Williamsburg, Brooklyn – such a cool place, and wish we had more time off to explore it really. There’s always next time!

Dress: £79, And Other Stories. Bag: £369, Sandro. Sandals: Topshop (sold out)

Did I mention it was boiling?! 33 degrees on the first day and so humid, it was almost unbearable and very hard to dress chicly. Luckily, the weather cooled down a bit on our last day but still glorious sunshine. I had never been to New York in September and can’t recommend it enough, even if you’re not going to the shows, there’s a lovely buzz around the city and you can spot a few celebs (Olivia Palermo and Anna Wintour were a few good fashiony ones for me).

Luckily, I met up with a few fashion friends who helped guide me round (despite being to NYC several times, I get so disoriented!), Naomi from The LifeStyle Edit showed me round the West Village and I caught up with Bonnie from The Style Traveller in Soho.

The Elk, Charles Street
Jumpsuit: £130, Whistles at Very Exclusive. Sandals: Mango (sold out). Bag: £230, Marc Jacobs at Very Exclusive

Jack’s Wife Freda – a must for breakfast/brunch
Bag: £230, Marc Jacobs at Very Exclusive
My favourite Fashion Week moment? Probably the J Crew presentation, it was on the top floor of a studio with the tallest windows and fabulous views.  Instead of models, they use ‘real’ people who were friends of the brand or associated in some way (but they still looked like models – it’s J Crew after all). Jenna was there, looking on point as always, and the clothes were possibly my favourite yet – pink pyjamas, flamenco ruffles and neon pom poms.

Views from Dumbo, Brooklyn
We loved Kiki’s for Greek food, on the Lower East Side, and is great for interiors inspo…

Blouse: £28, Next. Denim skirt: £36, Urban Outfitters. Belt: £8, Asos. Suede chain strap bag: £99, Marks & Spencer.
Obviously not forgetting our roots, we had Shake Shack as soon as we landed (and stocked up daily on vanilla milkshakes to keep us cool), and gorged on triple cooked fries and aioli on the Tommy Hilfiger x Gigi Pier 16 (for Fashion Week only).

T-shirt: £35, cK at Very Exclusive. Bag: £140, DKNY at Very Exclusive.
Denim skirt: £36, Urban Outfitters.
I have a feeling that this will not be our last New York Fashion Week….oh and there will be more on Brooklyn coming up soon.

It looks like you had such a fabulous time! Seems so lovely and you got to see some of the coolest shows!

I also love the pop of pink and red in the first look and that shade of green in that jumpsuit is beyond!
