Streamlining my wardrobe

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman
Coat: Zara (buy similar from Topshop, £89). Shirt: £14.90, Uniqlo. Trousers: £30, Asos. Trainers: £66.99, Adidas at Office. Bag: Topshop (buy similar, £36, Topshop)
So I’m having a clear out. For a while now, I’ve been thinking of streamlining my wardrobe: wearing only black, white, grey and navy a la Scandi style icons. But can someone obsessed with fashion do it?
I probably won’t stick to it religiously, as I aways get far too excited by new trends but I’m going to give it a go and clear out pieces from my wardrobe I don’t wear. Far too often, my ‘go-to’ wardrobe items are a classic shirt, a good pair of jeans and a crombie coat – so I’m stocking up on these.

I’m keeping my frivolous shoes, though!

So for our first outing of the year, a new year’s walk along the Thames, I put this look to the test.

First off, the trainers owned by every minimalist out there, the Adidas Stan Smith – a chic Christmas present (from myself) – I love them. I think about this time last year, I made a resolution to wear less trainers – scrap that.

Trainers, £66.99, Adidas
Backpack: Topshop (buy similar here)

3. Soft trench, £97.50 in the sale, French Connection

4. Black leather strap, £30 (watch £115), Shore Projects

    Hi Alex, Happy New Year!
Such a timely post – I'm doing exactly the same. I had a massive wardrobe clear out yesterday (5 bin bags off to the charity shops) and am left with a minimal wardrobe of jeans, neutral shirts, jumpers and t-shirts. I stocked up on a few investment pieces in the sale (a relaxed navy blazer and oversized white shirt) so feel good to go now.
Keep us posted on how you get on!

This is the dream! I often wish it was spring all year round so I could live in jeans, tees and blazers – my fave look

Yep, me too, doing the same. Your' staples look like mine. I always go back to the same style, single breasted jacket (car coat length) shirt/ polo or turtleneck and jeans with low heeled boots. I am still having my 'backpack' love. It is just easy and I like easy. H xx

I LOVE easy…and I have used my backpack so much these last few weeks – you can fit so much in it! I've been eyeing up a few polonecks too – Whistles had a gorgeous short sleeved one – good for the 70s trend…

I think your style is wonderful and you have plenty of scope with your gorgeous shoes. It's something I would be tempted to do too if I didn't love my skirts and dresses so much.
    Happy New Year!

I've been thinking about streamling my wardrobe recently too, not sure how successful I'll be, but I'm going to give it a go!
