TRANSEASONAL DRESSING DONE RIGHT {IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GAP}

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Quick Read

Denim jumpsuit: Gap (in-store now, but similar online here). Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell

I have written at length about purchasing items for your wardrobe that will last, but this also doesn’t have to mean dull, by any means. I’ve limited my shopping over lockdown and this will continue going forward, making room for only items worthy of space in my limited storage for the long-term.

Gap asked me to select some items to showcase on my site and I kept this in mind when selecting: what would look modern now, be useful over the next few months but also the next few years…? So I’ve picked classics that felt like ‘me’ but would also pep up my wardrobe. I would also like to add that I didn’t get to ‘keep’ all of these clothes, I’ve styled them here to show you ideas on how to wear and what I would recommend.

All of these items are in-store and most are available online, so I’ve linked alternatives in some cases.

Shirt: Gap (a few left online here, also available in-store and similar here). Skirt: Gap (and more sizes available in a similar style here)

This skirt is a nice twist to the classic khaki trouser, and can be worn in both dressy and relaxed scenarios. And this shirt will be so easy to throw on with shorts and but equally styled under dungarees and with jeans into the winter months. I have quite a few shirts in my wardrobe but they are the most used (and kept hold of!) item.

There is definitely something in knowing what you get the most wear out of in your wardrobe, and for me, it’s fast becoming a classic throw-on dress. It’s something that will be worn again and again, plus this style will fill that ‘maternity-wear without being maternity wear’ spot in my wardrobe.

Dress: Gap (available in-store but this dress here is similar)

Yes, I’m pregnant (thank you Gap for still wanting to work with me on this project!). And I don’t intend on purchasing maternity clothes for a few months of wear, I’m looking at items that can support my pregnant body but also remain an item I love post-partum. Luckily, being pregnant in the summer allows for this to be a little easier!

The phrase longevity is so important when shopping nowadays and it’s something I consider so much more when looking at an item.

Jumpsuit: Gap. Bag: Gap

And can we please spare a moment for this jumpsuit? It’s the softest item I’ve ever had the pleasure of wearing, super easy to get on and off (I sized up for plenty of room – the tie means it can handle a bit of excess fabric), griphooks rather than fiddly buttons or zips and looks immediately pulled together.

Simple items that don’t need much styling? I am there.

This post was in collaboration with Gap, all words and imagery our own.

So good to see you back here, Alex. As always stylish, sensible and sustainable choices. Love those jumpsuits so much, just wear and go, easy to style – no decisions to be made. Excited about your pregnancy and hope you are keeping well too? Already looking forward to your next post. Tricia .x

I love classic pieces with a twist – the shirt is just my sort of piece. It’s all about the details! And yes to the jumpsuit too, what’s not to like about looking like you’ve made an effort, but feeling as comfy as wearing pj’s?
I liking how you make the point that you don’t need to buy maternity wear, there does seem to be a growing movement towards wearing clothes that aren’t just for pregnancy.

This is great Alex! I’m also pregnant with second child and I didn’t buy maternity stuff last time either (it’s like brands forget pregnant women want to dress well!?). Some things I still wear and love; other things I just couldn’t look at again after wearing for months on end! So hoping for more of the former and these look great X

Yes I’m hoping flowy dresses will get me through, although most days I can barely be bothered and just throw tracksuit bottoms on, as I don’t leave the house! x
