A very good cause indeed…

October: halloween, spiced pumpkin lattes, autumn leaves and of course: Breast Cancer Awareness month.

A year ago, my friend Lauren (we met through work, she used to work in PR which you’ll probably be able to tell by how kick-ass she has been with this campaign) was diagnosed with breast cancer – and quite rightly, it turned her world upside down.

Suddenly, instead of going to the pub with her friends, she was in hospital going through chemotherapy. Instead of going to her office job she was worrying about how to pay her rent.

The amazing Lauren

A year on, Lauren got through her ordeal and came out the other side – and she was so overwhelmed with her care that she decided to help towards this amazing cause. And Girl Vs Cancer was launched.

It’s the first time I had known someone my age to be affected by it (although previously, my family went through a personal sadness when my dad’s sister, Nesta, lost her battle with breast cancer 4 years ago). We have all been affected by it in some way and in fact, 1 in 2 of us will have been touched by cancer in our lifetime.

Lauren will be working with brands to help spread awareness and raise important funds – as well as the Tit-Tees (where 25% of sales are split between 4 Cancer charities Trekstock, Coppafeel, Future Dreams and Look Good Feel Better), she has used her PR-machine driving force to organise a special burger at Patty & Bun, and from 1st November, 10% of Bill Skinner’s popular ‘Bee’ jewellery range (theres a necklace, earrings and ring available) will go towards these charities, too:

Gold-plated ring: £25, Bill Skinner

Lauren asked some of my fave blogging ladies to be involved in this campaign: Monikh Dale, Liv Purvis, Lily Pebbles and Natalie Lee.

Even though it is, in fact, nearing the end of October, checking your boobs and raising money and awareness for the cause can of course happen all year round! Thankfully, these tees will still be available to buy on Girl Vs Cancer after October (and at £28, a great price), and we can keep adding to the 700 tees that have been sold already since Lauren launched last month (!) – something I’m hugely proud to be associated with.

Thank you everyone who has supported this campaign in such a wonderful and generous way (I know quite a few of you have bought these tees!).

Very informative I will be looking at some of these campaigns and will check my breasts regularly as this is something I do not do and it’s only when you read something like this that it brings it home how easy it is we neglect checking our bodies. Thank you.

I agree – and actually Coppafeel website was great in showing you what exactly to look for – and not just lumps! Made me so much more aware! x
