Bag lady: paper bag waist

Fashion - By Alexandra Stedman

Jacket: £65, Topshop. T-shirt: Topshop (sold out but buy similar here). Skirt: Uniqlo (sold out). Sunglasses: Mango (old but buy similar from Boden here). Bag: £79, Marks & Spencer. Trainers: £59.99, Vans at Zalando. Photographs: Christopher O’Donnell.

Actually, this post isn’t about my bag at all (although that’s nice too). It’s about another sort of bag: the paper bag waist.

The trend comes back around every so often and I must admit, I’m loving it this year. Perfect for those days when I’ve been eating a few too many pasta dishes and just need a bit of distraction from my less than toned stomach (more common than not, these days) and highlight my waist a little more.

Plus, I love the freshness it gives a classic skirt style – I usually wouldn’t have gone for a classic midi length skirt but the tie front gives it a bit of an edge – worn with a logo tee and denim it feels casual – but it would also look smart enough for office wear.

I’m sorry to say that this particular skirt has sold out online – I actually picked up in store and probably wore too much on Stories (!) so I’m sometimes my own worst enemy when it comes to items being in stock…but there are loads of options on the High Street (I bought these trousers, which I can’t wait to wear soon with, of course, another logo tee).

The bag is actually a piece I used for a shoot I styled recently for M&S, and decided to treat myself afterwards – it’s not cheap but great quality leather and much more accessible than the Simon Miller ones on Net-A-Porter.

So, all in all, quite an easy outfit. And oh yeah, I think I found my new favourite wall…..

I have always loved the paper bag trend and have a couple of pieces in my wardrobe that I can wear pretty much all year round because as you mention they can be dressed up or down so easily! Loving the khaki midi skirt over your new favourite wall Alex 🙂
    Happy week, girl Xx

I adore this skirt – bought it when it first came out and love how substantial it felt, and miraculously easy to iron!

Yes! Totally agree, mine just came out of the wash and I thought it’d be a nightmare – pleasant surprise! x
