Last week, I was in Stockholm for another Scandi fashion week – a chance for me to revisit one of my favourite cities, but also to see what their fashion week is all about. And it definitely didn’t disappoint.
Filled with super stylish Swedes and cool shows such as Toteme, House of Dagmar and Rodebjer, it was really interesting to do Fashion week a little differently. And obviously I made the most of the last sunny day – walking around Gamla Stan, Sodermalm and seeking out the perfect meatballs…

We found this empty alleyway in Gamla Stan and couldn’t believe our luck – it was lovely shooting amongst the coloured walls. Now, I’m pretty sure I was the only one wearing ‘old’ clothes to Fashion week again – truth is, I am still in that inbetween stage with my wardrobe where I haven’t yet decided what to buy for the new season. Absolutely everyone (at Copenhagen and Stockholm) were wearing sock boots – especially the Balenciaga floral ones – and I’m still unsure if they’re for me, yet.
I also find it hard to commit to winter clothes when summer is still having a bit of a final hurrah. So this Debenhams skirt came with me and worn with trainers and a trench, i still felt like myself.

I was a guest of Stockholm Fashion Week for the duration of my trip (but paid for my photographer and all my meals!).
Elsker din fine taske i leopardprint 🙂
Love how you highlight the need to feel like yourself. I hate that feeling of being uncomfortable because something isn’t quite right…. really inspiring 🙂 x
Such a great look. Who cares if some pieces are old, it just goes to show you bought well and love the wardrobe you own. You look really great, and what a beautiful location to shoot, that light is magical.

Wow these are all such great looks! Love the checks skirts such a style one. you are looking so stylish on this outfits at streets…
You look really cool! The reason why I am following you is that you are always yourself, no matter how the circumstances are. I feel your words, when you are surrounded by the crowd in top new clothes and so called must haves, it can cause weird feeling. i like and respect you Alex for proving that we need great essentials that we can rework. You are the best ambassador for communicating that message that we should decide what is for us” must have”. On the side note, I don’t like that everyone is wearing sock booths, especially those with floral design (likes of Balenciaga and Zara); I can’t imagine incorporating them in my wardrobe and I think they are impractical and only for nice or eventually windy weather (not suitable when it’s raining). who cares that half of Stockholm girls wears it. Best wishes from Frankfurt, you are great!
I love your ‘down to earth’-ness! It’s important to wear what you feel comfy in, regardless of whether you’re the only one not wearing sock boots! Going your own way and being true to yourself is way more stylish!
Have been looking at sock boots this evening though!! Still not there yet…x
Thank you!! Well, I never get stopped by street style photographers but quite enjoy not having that pressure! Some of the girls looked fabulous in those floral boots, but I would feel out of my comfort zone for sure (and definitely not for the rain!!) xx
Thank you – shooting with light is only something we’ve learnt about recently – and I must admit, finding a street to shoot in that’s pretty, has good light AND not filled with tourists is a struggle! xx
Thank you – too many fashion weeks trying too hard has always made me realise what works for me! xx
Thank you 🙂
Wow, you look absolutely awesome here in this outfit.
Are Vans sneakers even more comfortable without socks? 😀
Love everything about this outfit
Hello from Germany! You look absolutly fantastic and I just had to buy a skirt quiet similar to yours since it is so versatile!
Actually, I have a question concerning the fashion week in Stockholm. In your stories you were showing an invitation card that was made from metal and I am searching the Internet to find something similar for a corporate event that I am currently putting together.
It would be great if you could tell me which company used that gorgeous invitation, maybe I could contact them.
Thank you very much!
Best wishes
Cathérine
Hi – it’s reassuring to hear that you suffer from the ‘inbetweeners’ in September. I’ve been mulling over the move to sock boots too – and thought perhaps you’re the one to solve a style issue that’s going round in my head at the moment? Do you think they can work with the type of straight jeans you often wear?
yes I think these are the best style of denim to wear them with – or maybe a cropped wide leg denim? xx
Yes I love wearing it! Oh no…I’m so sorry, I don’t remember which show it was from as I actually had already missed that show when I got there – sorry not to be able to help!xx
I rarely wear socks with trainers…! The Vans took a bit of wearing in but now they’re so comfy (even without socks!) x
Love this skirt. Am cursing you for introducing to Madewell (love the khaki ruffled skirt which has just arrived) when I am supposed to be saving for a wedding and a house move!
SORRY!! Glad you like it though xxx
I like to see your own style! No worries if you wearing ‘old’ clothes to Fashion week. People want to see this kind of proposals. I agree with Mary. Great blog <3

Gorgeous style! It looks good on you 🙂
Another awesome outfit! I love the fact that you always look so chic and with an effortless vibe…
I have only recently found and started to follow you and really look forward to seeing your outfits.. I love the fact that everything isn’t new as it gives inspiration for pieces hanging in my wardrobe..
You make high street look designer with clever choices you make.
I have followed Laura Fantacci from day one but now her style is unfortunately way way out of my league..
I’m so glad I found your posts..and much prefer them. They are more real and interesting to read.. I look forward to seeing your next post!
?
Thank you! Well, I must admit even as time has gone by, I have got older and can’t get away with such cheap fabrics and stores as I used to…but I do believe in getting wear out of everything I own. Thanks so much for reading xx
Dear Alex, I have come late to the party as I’ve only just found you…and now I have spent most of a rainy Sunday scrolling through your archive of posts and I feel inspired as your style feels so en pointe to me. I am much older than you at 62 but I still love fashion & aim to be contemporary & stylish yet comfortable & myself. Recently I have become so disenchanted with the magazines – I always used to look forward to my weekly Grazia, Sat’s Guardian as I enjoy Jess Morley Carter’s column & monthly Vogue & Red but somehow none of them have held the same excitement for me recently- I thought it was as a result of getting older but must admit to feeling a bit bereft & then you came along & I feel excited by clothes again. Your aesthetic so chimes with mine- I hate formal dressing, would live in jeans if I could, love my stripes & polka dots, want comfy shoes I can stride out in and…. I could go on. Obviously I won’t be wearing the short skirts you do as though I’m still slim – just not appropriate but I have to say for someone who professes not to exercise you have the most fantastic toned legs! Needless to say I’m a big fan & will follow your blog & look forward to your interpretation of what to wear to look & feel current now. Already I can see lots more possibilities for putting outfits together in my existing wardrobe & I think it will help me make good buys & not be afraid to purchase M&S when it can be as cool as you make it look. Basically I just feel I’ll have a bit more confidence & enthusiasm again so thank you.
I also love how your house is shaping up. I’ve been doing up my cottage & just have the sitting room to go- a labour of love & a Pinterest & Houzz addict.
Many thanks again for all your sharing with us, Paddy
Ps my ultimatum style icon is Alexa Chung- she has the same aesthetic as you I feel- easy with a great British edge & sensibility. I hope you approve & think you’re in good company. Thrilled you were in the Harpers best dressed list. Well done.
Wow – what a lovely message to read! Made my day – I’m so pleased it inspires you and what I try and set out to achieve! And yes I love Alexa Chung – such an ease to her dressing xxx
I can’t imagine incorporating them in my wardrobe and I think they are impractical and only for nice or eventually windy weather (not suitable when it’s raining). who cares that half of Stockholm girls wears it. Best wishes from Frankfurt, you are great!
