For those of you, like me, who really just don’t do ‘partywear’. There’s nothing wrong with it, and I’m not scared to look smart, I’m just not myself all dressed up.
And chances are, most evening events I need to go to I’m working in the day already so I need a quick fix. Step forward the outfit makers: the £35 heels and the £9.50 earrings that can transform your work look.
I’ve been on the hunt for a smart version of my pinafore dress for a while, and this crepe version from M&S with it’s v-front and Japanese kimono-esque shape caught my eye straight away. And it has pockets…

I love these earrings…they’re a little bit Marni but not too overpowering. The perfect bit of ‘jooj’ for the party season – I’ve worn them with everything this last month.

And the shoes need no introduction: the red versions have been all over instagram recently but I’ve gone for classic go-with-everything black. For £35 you can’t really go wrong – I love the chunky heel mixed with the ruffle front. M&S have really upped their shoe game lately and I’m even contemplating these for £29.50 (but do I need another pair?!).

This post is in collaboration with Marks & Spencer, one of my favourites on the High Street right now.
Sometimes when you're going for a party and you're trying not to look overdressed and you don't know what to wear, this is exactly what I would wear! I adore the way you've styled this look. You look so sophisticated!

Oh Alex, I would love a post with more options of so-called "simple, understated and not at all fancy" partywear, as I'm struggling with it so bad! Every time there is someone's birthday or plans to go out, I am panicking by looking at my overflowing (very minimal and casual) wardrobe but not having anything to wear!!

Aah – yes, it's harder than it looks!! I don't have any space to do a blogpost before xmas sadly (Iknow! Too many other ideas!) – but have you seen these tops? I have in black and thinking of wearing underneath dungarees and jumpsuits…http://bit.ly/2fQRGD3
Topshop and H&M are always good with long sleeve dresses you can wear with flats – and my post with Next shoes are all great shoes to wear with plain dresses for a bit of oomph (it went live today so take a look) xx
